Dieselman,

I would try three cheap "fixes" before I handed the speedometer to the experts.  A new speedometer cable is available, and not expensive.  Otherwise:

1. Unscrew the cable at the wheel drive, slide out the core, and apply a fine lubricant (NOT white grease).  Reinstall the cable core and reinstall the cable.  And maybe . . .

2. With the core back inside the cable housing, add a small washer (or two) to the square end of the cable core and reinstall the cable.  And maybe . . .

3. Sharp bends in the speedometer cable can cause the needle to bounce.  Arrange the cable to make the largest possible bends, with enough Ty-Wraps to hold the cable where you want it.

If those fixes do not fix the problem, it's probably time for the speedometer repair shop.  It won't cost much to try a few fixes, first.  HTH.

Thanks I was thinking the cable but then I noticed trip odometer working so I figured little gear inside? Probably plastic is getting worn out.   How much does a speedometer rebuild normally cost.  I have no idea where to even send it lol.  Probably just hope it makes it until winter. Will try lube tho.  Thanks

Dieselman,

If all you need is a speedometer to keep your speeds legal, go to Amazon.com and Search for

KingNeed GPS Heads Up Display GPS Speedometer

US$26.00 with free shipping, and maybe a discount coupon as well.  You can read it in sunlight (just keep the display window clean).  I seldom look at the bike speedo anymore; the GPS is more accurate, with big digits.  Reads out in miles or km, your choice.

Don't know how much an instrument repair shop would cost you, but I believe there is one in California.  Somebody here will know; that shop does good work.  HTH.

Thank you Pat most likely will ship it out. Probably wait til winter when I tear the whole bike apart (I have big goals in mind for the winter)   As far as using a gps speedometer I'm probably gonna just get a phone mount and use an app for now. (Plus I'll have my phone for gps).   I also noticed this morning when it was dark out I have no dash lights. My indicators light up for everything just no backlighting
