Recently I removed my forks, as some of you may have seen in my other post. I discovered one mounting tab was broken on the fender. It's one of the tabs that also holds the brake hose brackets. Are these the typical tabs that so many other owners have posted about breaking?
Joe
They all seem to fail. Some think the removal of the reflector bracket causes it. I think fork flex, age and over tight on the bolt are more likely the cause(s).
Yes, those are the tabs that many talk about. There are a few products available that work well for repairs. I have found a good repair.
Regular ABS cement (The black type). I also have some fiber glass batting that I add. I cut a small amount of the fiber glass and cut the fibers into small pieces and separate the fibers. I them mix the fibers into the ABS cement. A quick swipe of ABS cleaner or Acetone on the attaching points then a coating of the ABS cement/fiberglass mixture. Let set for 24 hours. A little sanding with 320 grit to smooth everything.

Good points fellas. At least the mounting tab was not lost.

I showed you my tabs, Joe. Do NOT try anything except Plastifix. I have some if you want to bring your fender over and repair it. Permanently.

Thanks Rick but I have my own secret sauce.

I'll be there for you when it fails.

Good thread.
Joe
Love to see a followup. I haven't seen anything that has lasted very long.
