Hi Folks,
I was just open the valve cover to change the poor old valve cover gasket that leaks much, I go for check the valve clearances.
I think the intake valves are in tolerance but the exhaust side are pretty loose.
Unfortunately I didn't have the valve shim tool and the shipping will take a month to arrive, I doubt if the actual valve clearances ok me to ride the bike for a time?
What would you advice? Wait for the parts or could I hit the road?
I haven't looked at the specs in a while, but, in general, the concern is that the clearances get too tight. I don't think being on the loose side is a critical issue. Other smarter than I will surely chime in.
If those measurements are accurate, then just one of your Intake valves is slightly loose, and three of them are at the tight end of the acceptable range. Most of your exhaust valves are slightly loose. One of them is in the acceptable range.
Slightly loose is OK...............You may hear a slight tapping or ticking sound from the valve operation, but your engine will operate happily.
These clearances will tighten up over time as the valve/seat wears. (the shim doesn't wear)
What you DON'T want are clearances that are too tight.........This will lead to the valves not closing all the way, or for long enough duration, which could lead to burnt valves (especially the exhaust valves)
If you are confident that your measurements were correct, I would just put the cover back together and ride it till the next valve-clearance check interval..........You should be good to go. :good2:
Don't forget the valve cover bolt grommets:

Loose is ok, tight is bad (for valves). You'll be fine.

Thanks Pat, the cover bolt seals are stone hard, definitely I need to change them.
I decide it's ok to ride with that clearances till next maintanence. I apreciated all for your replies.
