Title: Standard 1100 and 1200 rear ends.
Post by: fj-f3a on February 15, 2019, 12:06:59 AM
Will a modified 17" X 5.5" wheel which I have mounted in my 91 1200 bolt straight into an 84 1100.
Both bikes standard swing arms.
I would imagine the overall width and sprocket alignment to be the same.

Thank you.

Gavin, it should be a simple bolt on. Measure the distance between the swingarms of each assembly and to be really sure measure the assembled width of all the bits on the axle. You might need to change a few spacers (washers) to make them match (if required). Pay attention to chain and brake rotor alignment.

As far as I am aware, it should all just swap over. Same mod procedure for both.(x2 4mm spacers, longer rear brake line and a mounting point under the swing arm for the brake torque arm)

Thank you FJmonkey and Mark.

I have just fitted a 17" X 5" wheel with a 170/60 and an under slung brake caliper, just to try.

Also fitted a 17" X 3.5" front wheel with a 120/70 and a Speed Hut Electric Speedo (not GPS). Wright up to come.

So, the 17" X 5.5" wheel is laying idle for the moment so, I have offered Alan (Sparky84) a free trial on his 84 1100.

From what you both say, it should bolt straight in with the spacers and break carrier I manufactured.

Will probably give it a try after the upcoming rally.
