Title: Fox Rear Shock a good idea?
Post by: David Allaband on September 10, 2018, 12:34:33 AM
A friend is offering to sell me a used Fox rear shock. I don't know much about it and neither does he. It came off an FJ that he doesn't have anymore. It has a red spring with a red external reservoir. The spring and reservoir are adjustable. I'm pretty sure my current rear shock is stock. The bike is a 1987 with 1989 body and front end. Up front I have the RPM cartridge fork internals. I was hoping to upgrade the rear shock but don't have money for it right now. I can get the Fox shock for $100. Is this a good idea?

Thanks for any advice.

I had a Fox shock on my 1987. I was pretty happy with it.  :good2:

Pretty much any aftermarket shock set up for the FJ1100/1200 in good working condition is better than the OEM shock.

IMO, for $100.00, I would give it a shot. :dance2:

If the shock is that old and with unknown history, you will want to have it serviced.  Also may require a new spring depending on your weight.  Could cost a couple of hundred bucks.
