After many hours some cursing, some Agro moments, some near torching it with the matches moments and a lot of time wasted while the dogs been demanding attention throwing the ball while I'm trying to get things done on the bike with not much success, I can say it's been worth it. Only front brake lines to swap and seat to sort and it's done.
Here is a photo of the day I first got it and one of now.
Keep in mind that the yak is the only part that's been repainted in the black / blue. Rest is original.
To much to mention to what I've done but it wasn't all done at once. It's been a work in progress while riding.
I had the inlet manifolds changed recently. The restricted type were removed and inrestricted fitted. What a huge improvement. So much more power and smoothness. Front discs done with new pads as well. ARASHI discs. So far I'm impressed with them.
So for now it's time to ride and enjoy.

What side cases are you carrying? Is there a support frame available for them, or is that custom work?
What happens to the rear turn signals? I can see some installed on the panniers, but do you have rear turn signals when you remove the panniers? Are there brake/running lights on the panniers?
The rack is a GIVI rack. Indicators are attached. Standard items for the rack. I do decals so I changed the case stripes to match the bike. The cases are standard E36 GIVIs and top box Is E45. Fred Greenlee gave me the carbon fibre idea. They are hydrographics (water printing with 2 pak clear.
The photo of the rack on its own was before I stripped it and repainted it. On the bike is the finished work

I'm just not sure about those handlebars though :biggrin: (did you take them off a Harley ? :smile:).
Seriously though, did you have to swap the throttle cables and brake hose for longer items ?
The handlebars are a modified Set. I have got a crook shoulder. The original setup I could only manage a half hour ride before the pain set in. Now I can go for hours with nothing. Near perfect upright position. Only the brake, clutch lines and accelerator cables need lengthening. No wiring mods needed just rerouting. Best money spent.
80mm up and back approximately. ABM top clamp. This is the 3rd set of handle bars but I got them modified a bit more by someone with a mandrel bender. No issues with hitting the fairing either. Doesn't touch at all.
This mod was cheaper than taking a loan on a new bike. Was my last resort before I was going to sell it. So glad I saw it through. Can ride all day now no issues. If I want to put it back to standard I can. Simple but no chance of that happening. I put the vario flip screen on with the bigger flip option and get near nothing for wind or buffeting. Can ride with the visor up most of the time

I cheated. I actually bought them done like this. I had planned on doing mine but these came up. They had a near new rear pirelli sport demon on the rear. I couldn't resist. I put a new set of front discs on and swapped the rear off mine. It's near new.
Not certain as to what paint is on them.
I'm sending a stock seat and the Corbin to get modified. .
Possibly going to get the original seat custom built. I like the Corbin but it's like concrete after a while.
Wait and see what's recommended..
other than that just the front brake lines left to do and it's done.

Your time and headaches were well worth it. A beautiful FJ. That dark blue with gold accents is one of the best FJ colors.
I also prefer the stock seat. It allows me to slide front to back and give a little rest to my tired old knees. The corbins are hard and also lower than the stock seat which takes up some of your leg room. However I see many pictures of corbin equipped bikes with some sort of pad on the seat. Why invest in a corbin with a pad? Seems like a stock seat does the same for less money.

Hi Dave.
The Corbin is a bit hard. Also being lower is great for vertically challenged people. Closer to the ground. I'm getting a stock seat modified. As for being lower and leg room I over come that by investing in a set of BUELL foot pegs which drop down about an inch (or more) lower than stock. Never hit the ground with them. AviationFred put me on to them. He also uses them. It makes the world of difference.

How did you upgrade the inner fairing plastic to carbon fiber? That's stunning!
Jeff noted earlier on that the carbon-look came from having the parts covered (hydro dipped with a printed film - it's a newish process where a pattern is printed onto a special film, the film is put in warm water, it sits on/just below the surface and the parts are then lowered onto the film and into the water, this makes the film fit around all the creases and crinkles on the part) then lacquered with 2 pack clear.
It's pretty darned effective :good2:
I had it done by a panel shop in monbulk Victoria $140. ( Monbulk panel shop.) Thought that was cheap to.

AviationFred's FJ1300 was my main inspiration that got me motivated. Mark Lowe set me a challenge. Just be aware that once you start it's hard to stop. I nearly sold my bike for a new one until I changed the handlebars due to uncomfortable riding position. Now it's great. Love it. Money well spent. If you need any photos or info feel free to ask. I also make decals. I changed the decals and badging on my GIVI set. Makes it look uniform. Done a lot decals for the guys in the club. Did Fred's as well.

Your bike is beautiful Jeff. Well done. Your eye for detail is superior. It's the little things, like, how you painted the Rentech frame brackets to match your silver frame. You caused them to disappear. I like that.
Yea, it's the cumulative effects of all the little details that make your bike.

The brake and clutch lines are getting done very shortly. I did the top ones but I'm going to redo them all.
As for a second FJ........... I got a "spares" complete minus the motor but I just got offered another complete 88.
I'm thinking about buying it and duplicating mine but with crystal pearl white paint. Gold / charcoal grey and black decals.
Well now, in all fairness, you did title your post "finally nearly finished"
My FJ has also been "nearly finished" for some time now....just a couple more mods to do.
