Title: R1 front end swap?
Post by: iridewheelies on August 16, 2018, 03:44:03 PM
Is it possible to do an r1 fork/front wheel/brake swap on an 85' fj? There is a website that makes tons of clamps and stems for different fork swaps and they can make custom parts. I would want to do a complete swap. I dont know if it has been done or not and was wondering if anyone had ever messed around and tried it. Thanks guys. My stock forks are pretty blown out and ive been wanting to update the front end since I have had the bike.

iridewheelies,

I'm pretty sure it is an easy bolt-on swap, with no special parts needed.  Search the older posts here, or maybe somebody here has the direct links.  I would go for new, tapered roller bearings at the steering head (if you do not get tapered rollers in there already), and make sure that you get a good 17" wheel in the buy.  I'd also want two stainless steel braided brake lines, one for each side, going to the brake master cylinder.  RPM can probably help with that brake line upgrade. if needed, but be sure the new brake hoses will be long enough for the full fork travel.

If Search here does not find what you need, you can make Google do a Search any one website (instead of the entire Internet) thusly:

Of course, Google may find what you need out in the wild, too.

Happy hunting.

Do the USD forks have to be from an R1?

I am extremely happy with my second GSX-R1000 USD forks. Here is my write up on the first mod. Photos of all the parts that I used and an itemized price list that I paid at the time.
