Title: Removing the clutchbasket nut.
Post by: Old Rider on July 25, 2018, 02:08:49 PM
As my bad enginenoise continues I'm thinking of replacing the hole clutch pack .I'm hoping that there is something wrong with the clutch basket springs bearings or hub or something else with the clutch making the noise.I don't have the holding tool for the nut and wonder if its possible to get it off other ways?
i have seen a method on youtube using a strap winded around the hub and tied to the frame ,but i don't think it is going to work on the FJ because the clutch is so deep innside engine.
any tip? and i don't have a hammergun.

I bought an EBC clutch removal tool for $18.00
bent the handle and dipped it in plasti dip for comfort.
Fits in deep to hold the basket.

If you have an air compressor, go out to our local outo parts shop and get yourself a rattle gun. I have found them to be really useful.

They make electric ones as well, maybe even battery driven.

Old rider,

A lot of auto parts stores today are lending or renting out special tools now.  Call around, locally.  A plug-in impact gun will probably do the job, there.

Get everything else ready there, so you can use the tool to remove that nut, do the repair, and replace that nut in short order.

Just a thought . . .
