...and yet, I can't look away!

I think it reminds me of some sort of creature, with an overly large proboscis.
On another note, we used to have one of these, sitting at the shop. (just the sidecar, not the bike):

I've never ridden on a side hack. I wonder what's it like?
I wonder how hard it is to turn that FJ with that big front meatball.
I saw a couple of FJ's with sidecars in Germany, in the mid-90's. We stayed at the campground in Garmisch, about 45 minutes south of Munich, during Oktoberfest. On our way back to Ramstein Air Base, we paid a visit to "Mad" King Ludwig's palace, Linderhof. There were a pair of nice FJ's with sidecars in the parking lot. As I recall, one had the paint scheme like Fred's `95; the late-model bronze colour.
Something like this, I believe:

Here's another variation:

Here's another "proboscis", but with more tasteful paint:

Pat you will have to ask the General ( Doug ) at one of the US FJ Rallies ( I think he intend to attend the all)
He has an XS900 (? i think) with a side car that he terrorises around in.
We have a photo somewhere of 12 people on his bike.
Mark
It's an old Yamaha XS1100 Mark, and yeah he can ride the wheels off that thing. You never get held up following him, in fact the problem is trying to keep up.

I am looking forward to meeting him. I'll be picking him up at the airport in a couple of days. Can't wait to ride with him, and show him some of the (albeit, FLAT) Florida roads. He has a really nice FJ awaiting his arrival.
Steve
A friend had a tilting side car on his ST1100. It allowed the side car to follow the tilt along with the bike so that you could counter steer and lean into turns. Very cool setup that was quite fast (for a side car). Also had the normal wheel and tires on the bike. If I was interested in a side car that is the way I would go.

Probably not as hard as you'd think.
If you look, the steering mechanism isn't the plain old FJ fork, and the redesigned geometry would make a lot of difference.
Can the racing side hacks corner harder, faster, traditional 2 wheel racers?
I've seen pictures of of the passengers hanging off the platform of the side hack racers.
Quite alarming.
Yessiree, I'm looking forward to meeting Doug at the WCR

I think the road racing rigs are closer to F1 tech than motorcycles!
