Opportunity knocked and I was able to pick up 22 quarts of Amsoil 20W-50 synthetic motor oil - but it is labeled "V-Twin Motorcycle Oil"

I'm planning on using this in my 1989 FJ1200 -
Yes, no or worse for even starting an oil thread.......
Might be fine in the summer, I had problems with a 20/50 when it got cold (California cold). The starter clutch had a hard time catching. Now I run a 5W-40 Rotella T6. The down side is I lose oil quicker past the valve guides. The upside is I don't kill the battery while the group is waiting for me during a rally.
I ran 20w50 full synthetic in my '89 for a few years before it had the 1297cc kit installed. I never really had any cold starting issues in 30°-50° days. One thing to look at on the bottle is a disclaimer that may say...'Not For Wet Clutch Use'. A few years ago I bought a few quarts of Lucas full synthetic at a smoking hot deal. I didn't notice the 'Not For Wet Clutch Use' label on the bottle until I actually went to put it in the bike.

A big YES....that is a very good oil and safe for your wet clutch.
You scored!
If it meets JASO MA and API (I don't know which for our FJs, but standards that FJs require have long been superseeded) you are fine. I use only 20W50 (Motul 3000 4T). No starting issues to 0 °C.
No it's very bad.... you wanna get rid of it I'll give ya $20 for it. :sarcastic:
Thanks for all the feedback!
Here is what Amosil had to say -
QuoteSteve,
Thank you for contacting AMSOIL with your question.
You could run the 20W50 if you wanted, however it is a little bit heavier than what Yamaha recommends. They prefer either a 30 weight or a 40 weight. We would recommend our Metric Motorcycle Oil either in 10W40 or 10W30.
If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us.

I'll give it a shot :D
Give the heavier oil some extra time to warm up to ~180*F before visiting the Kookaloo zone.
For our big air cooled lumps, 20w50 is good for summer rides, even extreme temps like where I live.
Ester stock synthetics are the best high temp lubrication money can buy.
This is still the best oil for high temperature conditions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdVKIrzbitQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdVKIrzbitQ)

Idon't think it is for wet clutch. Maybe for Ducatis would be good.
i run that oil in my 89. Works great. no issues.
When the budget was real tight some slightly used oil go me by. But everyone thought a McDonald's was near by.
