Title: Piston Rings?
Post by: Tor-King on January 05, 2018, 04:39:16 PM
I am just reassembling my engine and have a quick question concerning ring placement.  Is the ring that is "chamfered" on both edges the top ring or second ring?  I remember hearing somewhere here that the Haynes manual was incorrect in their diagram?
Thanks!
Dean

Dean,

The photo is difficult to tell, but the ring on the left appears to be the top ring. It should be a "chrome" face ring.

The second ring is just black.

Hi Randy.  These rings are OEM.  The ring on the left is black on both sides with no "printing" and the edge is chamfered...

Hi, clymer has a misstake? Should bevel of rings be faced up or down? I have been wondering oil  consumption after ring change..

The chamfer (bevel) faces up towards the top of the piston. There is also a difference between the top ring and the second ring.
