As discussed at this years Central FJ Rally in Wisconsin. The 2018 Central FJ Rally will be held the 8th-10th of June 2018 In the Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas.
The plan was to have the rally at The Hub Motorcycle Resort in Marble Falls. There has been an official announcement that The Hub Motel and Scooters Restaurant have been sold and may not be available in June. I am now in the process of looking for a new location. For the first choice in my search would it could be the Cliff House Inn about a dozen miles or so south of Marble Falls near the town of Jasper. This could easily be a hotel take over as there is only 5 rooms. One is a Suite with 3 beds and the other four rooms could be outfitted with 2 beds apiece. There are also large cabins about a mile from the Inn. I think it would be awesome if we can get 10 or 11 members that are willing to share these rooms and have the place to ourselves.
I will call later today and verify the availability of the rooms and cabins.

That's really bad news. One of my favorite places. Going to be hard to find another like it that is motorcycle friendly.

Yes really bad news. The owners were what made that place great. One of my trips there. A fellow came in on the back of his buddies bike. He had crashed 14 miles down the road. The owner gave them his brand new Ram to go to the hospital to get him checked out. Said he would take them but his wife was gone and had no one to run the hotel. When they came back from the hospital. His wife was back so he took them to pickup the bike and brought it back to the hotel.
Well, that's unfortunate!
Perhaps the new owners have designs to carry the torch??? (unlikely) Maybe they're going to resurrect the Dogpatch theme park?
I would like to attend this rally, wherever it may be. That's a really nice area for riding.

No more Happy at the Hub
With only 5 rooms available at the Cliff House inn and knowing the motorcycle groups will be in the same situation we are without The Hub being available. I called and blocked all 5 rooms for the 7th to the 10th, double occupancy. Going on this years attendance at the Central Rally. The 5 rooms will cover us perfectly. If this is not agreeable, please speak up. There are plenty of options. My second choice is Theodosia, MO.

Any of the proposed locations will put us in close proximity to great roads from the get go. I have not stayed in any of the motels or resorts so I can offer no recommendation from that perspective. Fred's suggestion of the resort on Bull Shoals Lake has a lot of appeal to me due to it being on Missouri Hwy. 160. We will definitely have to run MO 160 & 125. Both of them have nearly perfect asphalt and most of the distance of both roads are nothing but curves. Anything from there south is nothing but a good time.

I always stay in Clarksville. The trip up AR 123 or AR 21 is a great start to any ride and a nice ride at the end of the day on the way home.
It would be nice to stay in Jasper, but there's not many rooms avaiable
There was a trip a bunch of years ago, 6 riders. We rolled into The Hub on the 4th day of the trip.
6 sportbikes pulled into a sea of Harleys and Gold Wings. When we checked in, the owners said there was beer in the cooler outside and to help ourselves. If we didn't like the beer, the keys were in the truck and we were welcome to use it to make our own beer run. Great people. The Harley and Gold Wing riders were all very nice. It looked like a raccoon convention, all the Harley riders had sun/wind burn on their faces except for the white around their eyes from wearing sunglasses (no helmet).

I'm planning on going. Should be able to afford it by then. And my shop/house should be pretty much done by then. I will be driving my truck down. I can put 2 fjs In the truck. And I have access to a 2 place trailer. Or My 4 place enclosed trailer. If anyone from the Wisconsin area. Wanted to come stay the night at the shop/house and trailer down and back. And Yes Fred thanks for doing the ground work.

I pulled the trigger and reserved one of the rooms for Friday and Saturday nights, just to get a foot in the door.
I have invited my girlfriend, but don't know her work schedule just yet. If I go solo, then I'll look into sharing one of the two-bed rooms with someone. Otherwise, my reservation is (currently) for a room with the one bed.
Looking forward to this! Thank you for doing the leg-work.

I would bunk with someone else, but I don't want to inflict my snoring on anyone else. They tell me it's world class bad.
Dave Skipper here, I believe I need to call Steve in Florida and book he and I a room for the duration. He is Co-piloting with me to Petaluma for the West Coast rally and wants to do the Central on the way back. We may be in one of my Semi Trucks with an auxiliary power unit providing heat/air and power so if the rooms run out, I may have my own and just need to borrow a bath.
I just spoke with the Cliff House Inn this morning. There are 2 rooms still available for the 7th - 9th of June. I was informed that they could no longer hold them specifically for us.
I will be arriving in the early afternoon on the 6th of June.

I can now focus on getting the swing arm bolted back in my bike, get the saddle bag bracket bolted on and get serious about doing some recon runs in the hills. With all the rain we have been getting the last few days, the roads should be clean of winter sand and deicer.

Good to hear that you will be here that weekend! So far the rain has been slow enough that I haven't seen any road damage like we received last year.

Just in case anyone is wondering, the roads east of Highway 65 are clean and in great shape. The Forest Service is doing a lot of prescribed burns up there right now but are usually done with those by June. I'm probably going to order a set of tires before the rally, it would suck to kill a set during all the fun and have none in reserve. I have a tire machine if anyone needs to mount a tire while you are here.

There are 2 must-do roads in Arkansas: AR123, which is in the Cliff House back yard, and AR341, aka Push Mountain.
My group is planning on doing Push Mountain on Thursday. We could meet up at Pelsor / Sand Gap and do a group run. It's an all day ride.
We're going to try to hit Upper 123 on Wednesday, but only if time allows. Friday might be a trip up to Missouri.

I'm going to be out riding on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I hadn't planned on spending the night up in Jasper Wednesday night, but will be there Thursday and Friday nights. You know I'm not terribly picky about what roads we are going to ride, other than staying off of Highway 65. :pardon:
