Title: MUDGEE RALLY RECON RiDE 16th-17th September
Post by: oldktmdude on August 04, 2017, 03:10:56 AM
G'day everyone, we have a recon ride planned for Mudgee, for anyone that maybe interested in joining us.
We are leaving Bermagui Saturday morning at 8.30.  We are happy to pick up anyone along the way. For those that are in Sydney, we could meet at Bathurst. Let me know and we can arrange a time and place to catch up. We're heading up through Braidwood, Goulburn, Taralga, Oberon, Bathurst, Sofala, Ilford and Mudgee. Accommodation will be at the Oriental Hotel   http://www.orientalhotel.com.au (http://www.orientalhotel.com.au)
Leaving Sunday morning via the proposed Rally Route, to check out the lunch facilities for the March Rally.
Please let me know if you intend coming along, so we can get some arrangements in place.
   Regards, Pete. :drinks:

G'day Pete, that sounds good but I'll have to confirm a bit later.
A photo of FJ's at Mt Panorama would be good, last time I went from Bathurst to Mudgee via Sofala was when Sofala was just a dirt road.
What time would you be expecting to get into Goulburn?

Cheers Alan

G'day Alan, it would be great to have you along. I reckon we'll be at Goulburn between 11 and 11.30 am.
We are planning to do a lap around Mt Panorama, time permitting.
The road from Bathurst, through Sofala to Ilford is a beauty, got some great corners and not a lot of traffic.
When I lived in that area, back in the early 80's, that road was dirt and not really suited to modern road going motorcycles.
Let me know if you can make it and we'll sort out some finer details.
   Regards, Pete.  :good2:

Hey Pete

I've let Trent know that you will be at the Oriental on the Saturday night.
If he is still working down there he will drop in and say hi :greeting:

Yes it was a bit of a shocker, I had just put my Z1300 back together and took it for a day run to Mudgee via Bathurst and through Sofala (i think it actually went through it not near it)

I did a lap on that same trip, I'm sure you'll have time.
It is amazing if you've only watched races there on TV how much it drops from the top at Skyline to Forest Elbow, it doesn't quite show it on TV.

Cheers Alan

Thanks Darran, hope he's in town when we are. Would be a good weekend for you and Danielle to head south to visit him.
Looking forward to getting back to Mudgee, I've spent a lot of time (money) there over the years.
Regards, Pete.   XXX,  they're for Danielle not you.

I've done a few laps there over the years. The last time, they were re-sealing the whole circuit and had the track speed limit dropped to 40kph. Once we passed the work crew, our speed increased a bit past what was legal. We were on a race track after all!
You're right about how steep it actually is. I'm sure, unless you have done a lap around there, you have no appreciation of how the road just disappears away from you after going over Skyline. Must be frightening at high speed. I'm sure we will have time to do a lap or two on the way up.
   Regards, Pete.

Hope some of you can make it.

Sorry Pete, I don't think I'll make it mate. Jeez that came around fast.
I still have bike in bits trying to sort out linkage bushing and work hasn't helped.
I'll could file the rust pitting on the shaft down to try inserting it back in and grease it good so it'll last a weekend away. (could be a bit loose)
Then Carbs to put back on after their clean, if I push it at work I might have a couple of days free at the end of the week to do this all.

But at this stage I'll say no  :sorry:

Cheers Allan

The Oriental Express! ...... Just looked up where you guys are heading this weekend. A surprisingly central Venue within a days ride of almost every FJ aficionado!
Throw in smooth twisties, natural spa pools and a pub and we`re talk`n Aussie Heaven me thinks!
Finding it impossible ta say No....even if I have ta do it on four wheels, I`ll be there.    Onya Pete!  :drinks:

G'day Pete,
Looks like you missed the snow up around Oberon, hope you have a good safe trip.

Thanks Alan, hoping for a dry road between Taralga and Oberon. That's a great bit of road when dry but can be tricky when wet.
Weather's not too great for tomorrow but looking good for Sunday. Shame you couldn't make it. No excuses next time.
   Regards, Pete.
PS. See you in December.

Mate I wish I didn't have this excuse Pete,
I'm hoping after this there won't be anything else.

There's been some breeze lately so hopefully it's dried a bit quicker.

I think I'll be taking a run to Mudgee once I'm back on the road.

Cheers Alan
