Hi all ,,It says in my workshop manual that the Horizontal adjustment of the 87 FJ1200 Headlight is made by turning the Philips headed adjustment rod that is coming out the Bottom Left hand side (looking at the rear of the light). Is this correct ?? .I have turned this rod and it moves the light sideways ,, ,, NOT up and down ,,,,My light also has another adjustment at the top right corner (which has a long rod with swivel joint and has a Plastic handle on it) ,,which is stuck and (WILL NOT TURN) .. What do I need to do to be able to lower my Light Beam down a bit ,,thanks for your help
The adjuster on the right with the plastic knob is the vertical adjustment. You may have to try to get some kind of penetrating oil into the threads in the headlight housing to get it free again.
Go easy on that rod drive contraption. You can lube it as suggested but most of the resistance is from friction with the housing. That swivel is a U joint and if it is like my 1984, it is made of thin brass, i.e. easy to crack the wings of the U joint. You might try removing the screws that hold the rod to the underside of the fairing so you can get a better grip on the knob. Next step is drop the whole fairing and get access to the headlight housing so you can see what's stuck. For example, grip the part coming out of the housing before the U joint and apply your twisting efforts there.
