Title: Electrical gremlin on brakes
Post by: jseaman on June 26, 2017, 02:51:39 PM

OK time for another query, my brake light is always one.

The rear brake switch makes a relay click but doesn't have any effect.

Putting the front brake on makes the light go out and also kills the neutral light and makes the ABS light come on - any ideas?!

The basic starting point would be to check the continuity on the front and rear brake light switches.

The ABS FJ front brake light switch has a three terminal switch. One side is normally closed and the other is normally open.

If someone changed the M/C to a two wire switch or the wrong switch, you will have those issues.

Find out what brake indicator is doing it, unhook them one at a time and that should tell you.  If it is the ABS system not too sure how to go about that. If it is a swx then you should be able to isolate it and then brake down the swx to see what is causing it to short.

1. Find what swx is doing it
2. Trouble shoot the swx to see what it is giving you a short
3. Once the swx is fixed install and test.

Good luck.
