Title: Starter switch always live....
Post by: Darmaduke on June 13, 2017, 09:39:57 PM
Hi guys....

Bought a 88 fj1200 last fall, it ran well, just needed a major clean...  that has turned into a frame off restoration.

It's all back together almost, just sorting out a few problems...

Last year when I bought it I noticed that the starter switch was always live. Even with out the key in the ignition.   The bike will not start because there is no power anywhere else, but if you push the start button it will turn over. With or with out the key in the ignition.

Sooooo..... I think it has to be the ignition switch itself, there are no weird splices anywhere, it's not some home job the PO did.  Or is this always the case with theses bikes?
Some how power is being sent to the switch then to starter relay etc...

Any thoughts?

With the key off the starter relay should be dead on the switch side. Might check there.
