Title: Then Came Bronson - RIP actor Michael Parks
Post by: Charlie-brm on May 10, 2017, 06:56:59 PM
I'm not posting this as a general celebrity RIP, but because the character Bronson really made an impression on me as a kid. I had no interest in motorcycles until I was well into middle age, but "Bronson" struck me as the coolest cat on a motorcycle, ever.

Steve McQueen was exciting in The Great Escape, Brando struck me as a cut out character in what ever that movie was. Easy Rider - interesting but foreign to me. Jon and Ponch were right for their time on TV, but Bronson was so laid back it just stuck with me. It wasn't even about him being on a motorcycle. Actually my first ambition was to get a little older so I could pull off the look of that knit watch cap, LOL. True.

Any other old farts remember watching the very first episode?
Actor Michael Parks - 77 years old.

I was always interested in bikes, but "then came Bronson" got me serious about getting a MC.  Unfortunately was still in HS, no $.  Took a few years, job, etc but eventually happened.

Mom & Dad were Harley people, so I grew up with and around motorcycles; when I was a baby they used to put me between them on the Sportster. In my family, "Then Came Bronson" was family viewing.

I was just out of the Air Force, going to college, wife , two kids, riding small a small Yamaha 2 stroke for transportation. Yeah, I watched the show. I think it's the reason I want a Sportster.

In '69/70 I was in high school. I had strict parents. Academics came first with them.
No tv was allowed on school nights, with no exceptions. Want entertainment? Read.

So...unfortunately I only caught one or two episodes.
Seemed pretty cool....riding around with his sleeping bag tied to his forks and all...

I don't recall it at all.  Back then we got three channels, if lucky maybe 5 when the weather was right through our antenna in the attic. (Also walked through glass to get to school etc...)

But I did find the whole season on line (26 episodes?).  I'll have to check out the bell bottoms and groovy hair.

Oh for the days when you had to have a rototena on the roof, that and you had to get up and go to the TV to change the channel and rotate the antenna....Dad would give me hell for spinning the dial too quick.
We got 2 channels clear and a snowy channel by bouncing the signal off the hillside opposite the house.

Cable?  Satellite?  Never heard of them!  "Go outside and play!"
