Title: What I did with my FJ on Saturday
Post by: Country Joe on May 07, 2017, 10:41:52 PM
There was a car and motorcycle show for a fund raiser for our local Meals on Wheels program on Saturday. My son and I spent the morning hanging out with friends, inspecting a bunch of cars, ranging from rat rods that made you want to get a tetanus shot to a brand new Z06 Corvette. On a whim I decided to spend a couple hours on Friday night and polished up the Garage Mistress and entered it in the show. Most of the spectators were quite pleasant and enjoyable to talk with, but as always there was a pirate that had to tell me how much more his Hardly Ableson cost than my motorcycle and how much more comfortable his La-Z-Boy on wheels was than that crotch rocket. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the trip up and back down Highway 16 after the show. The weather was perfect and the pavement reasonable clean considering the torrential rain we received last week.

Awesome Joe!

I see you're taking very good care of "my" FJ.  It looks great.

How's the flooding near you?  My local group is planning our Spring Arkansas trip for May 30 through June 03.  Unfortunately I won't be making that trip but look to get back there in the Fall.

Joe, that does a heart good seeing how you've taken care of David's beauty.

All is right in the universe.

David,
We have not had any serious flooding here, but both Southern Missouri and Eastern Arkansas have gotten seriously inundated. We did get some flash flooding that had washed out some roads but I believe that repairs have already been made on the majority of the washouts. I'm looking forward to seeing you again this fall. Heal up quickly!

Pat,
I sometimes feel like I have been entrusted with a
valuable piece of history represented by David's bike. I don't plan on doing anything to it that cannot be returned to stock configuration. The FZ1 swingarm swap is still a work in progress, but I think I have all the measurements that I need from both the FJ and FZ swingarms to restore the original suspension linkage geometry.

As a counter point to the HD fan boy, another older rider came rolling up next to me while I was gearing up to head out for the hills. He was riding a V-Star 1100 and proceeded to tell me about all the Harley's that he had owned over the last 45 years. Said he would never own another one after getting a taste for the Yamaha twins. He was quite appreciative of the condition of my FJ. He was a real hoot, in a good way.
