Having a real paranoia of not being seen from behind. (I was rear ended almost three years ago while riding). I have tried to add lights to the rear of the bike. I found some Red/Amber Cree LED 1157 bulbs. Clear and smoke lenses are easily found on Ebay for the rear turn signals. I also found that early models of FZ750/700's and FZR1000's have front turn signals that are similar in design to out OEM rear signals. These have the extra wire that allows the bulb to be lit all the time. I already had a set of smoke lenses to mach the RPM smoke LED tail light. I tied the extra wire to the tail light circuit and when the turn signal is activated, the red goes out and the amber flashes.
These are the bulbs that I ordered.

Very good Fred :good:
Curious, how did you find out about the 3 wire FZ turn signals?
I saw a cool mod a few years back, some one here on the forum added some lighting on the Givi top box.
It was cool, both running lights and stop light function.
Good job Fred!
Fred,
Most excellent! As always first class!

Fred, I've never been rear ended but share your concern. The best thing I've found is a modulator with an LED brake light. A rapidly flashing LED is a real attention getter. The modulator allows for programmeable flash rate and duration. If I even think an approaching vehicle from behind may not have seen me, I release and re apply my brake to start the flashing sequence again.
In a sea of tail lights that rapidly flashing LED stands out like dog's balls.
Drivers frequently rear end trucks, which usually have more rear lights than a Christmas tree, IMO the answer is something that stands out and is attention grabbing rather than just more lights.

Noel,
A brake light modulator does wonders. I have one installed. The version that I have, flashes fast 4 times, then flashes slow 4 times, then goes solid. The LED tail light, the 2 LED strips above and below the license plate and the lights in the top box are all tied into the brake light modulator.

I knew what I wanted to do with the rear turn signals and I knew that 3 wires were required to operate 1157 type bulbs. Over the years I had noticed in photos that the early FZ and FZR models had front turn signals that were the same basic design of the FJ1200 rear turn signals. The question was..... Did they function as running lights. A simple search on eBay for FZ front turn signals showed me that there were indeed a 3 wire unit.
