Hi ,,Just asking if all FJ1200 Coils Packs are the same through out the years ,,
Will Coils from a 1994 Model fit and run a 1986 Model ,,If not ,,what year did they change ,,
I am aware that the 2 Coil Packs are different as one feeds 1 and 4 and the other Coil feeds 2 and 3 ,,

The FJ changed from a TCI (transistor controlled ignition) to a DCI (digitally controlled ignition) in '89
Also changed, the ignition trigger, changed from a dual pick up ('84-87) to a single pick up ('89-93)
Therefore, it's not surprising that Yamaha shows 2 different part #'s for the coils

Going by memory, I recall the harness plugs to be different between the early and late model coils.
Sorry, I don't have access to the GYSM to look up the specs on the early vs late coils to see if they are different.
If you can wire around the different harness plugs, I *think* they should interchange, after all, the Dyna 3 ohm green coils works on both early and late FJ's

Well as said before both of my 1992 coils read 2.0 ohms so if the 87 to 84 coils were 3ohms they are definitely different

Hello Thomas.
The Yamaha FJ models did change (stock) ignitions and subsequent coil primary
ohm ratings over the years, so it is critical the model year be verified.
The 1989 and 1990 1200 engines used a coil having a 2.4 to 3.0 ohm primary ohm
rating, so the 2.2 ohm coils should never be used with a stock ignition.
However, on the 1991 to 1993 1200 engines, this changed to a 1.8 to 2.2 ohm
rating. So, your 1992 model is perfectly safe using the DC4-1 coil set, rated
at 2.2 ohms if you have the stock or Dyna 2000 ignition system.

My stock coils actually read 1.8 and 1.9 ohms 1992 fj

Not to use the lower ohm '91-93 coils on the earlier FJ's.

My 1987 1TX Bike is set up with a XJR1200 Motor , I have fitted the 86/87 Analog 2 pole ignition pick-up to the Motor to match the 1987 standard CDI unit etc , I did find that the 2 existing 1987 Coils had large cracks in the under side of both Coils so I replaced the Coils with 2 secondhand Coils from ebay ,, I have no idea what year model the Coils are that I have fitted to my 87 Bike , The 2 Coils I fitted look exactly the same as the Cracked Coils . The 87 Bike is going good ,with out any misfires etc ,, I only just came home today from a 400 mile ride and its running smoothly ,,
BUT
Can any one PLEASE tell me how to identify the early model 86/87 Coils that I should have fitted to my 87 FJ so to match my fitted 87 ignition Pick-up and the standard 87 1TX CDI Box ,,,

Do what Thomas did....check the primary ohm values.
2.4 to 3.0 ohms will show that they are the early coils.
1.8 to 2.2 ohms will show that they are the '91-93 coils.
