Title: Inexperienced rider or ?
Post by: pdxfj on March 18, 2010, 12:57:53 PM
Really nice day today in Porkland, Oregon but I had to take the truck since I'm taking my 88 year old grandmother to the doctor later in the afternoon.

Anyway..Guy on a bike comes up behind me this morning and decides to ride along side me on the right, in my blind spot.  After about a mile he drops back behind, moves left and pulls into my blind spot again.

Uhhh.. Even though he was wearing a yellow helmet and jacket he didn't appear to be the brightest light bulb in the box eh?  This was on a two lane surface street with moderate traffic.  Thankfully after a few miles he turned off on another road.

This is a good example of the natural selection process!

Just happy you didn't take part in it!!

in oz our parking lights and brake lights are the same colour (notice "U" for correct spelling  ) and are located in same light housing ( can't remember the config of US cars as when I am driving over there I have to concentrate on staying on the wrong side of the road which by the way is quite fun it makes you feel sorta naughty  :dance2: ) so in situations like this I flick on my parking lights to give the impression I am braking and then I accelerate way. Do this a few times and they get the message.

or

you could chuck your 88 year old granny out the window at him  :good2:

Bean,

I drive a van most of the time when I'm not riding a bike.
I find that riders will frequentlly sit in my left side blind spot.
I'm tempted to get a PA system so I can yell at them to MOVE!
And, if we both get caught at a light, I will try and explain the error of their ways.
So far, I have not 'taken out' any of our less enlightened clan.

I really wonder how they survive when most van and 4WD drivers don't watch or even see bikes.

Cheers,
Arnie
