I am in Melbourne Australia looking for standard mufflers for my 1988 fj1200
closest i can go are 3XW, think they are different position for the brackets...but awesome condition....
There is about 3-4 inch difference in mounting points 3xw vs 3cv.
thanks but i really just want to bolt the standard 3cv mufflers on

That's a shame. I know of a set from a '93 that were removed in '94 and stored well ever since. I know the owner would sell them and they are in Melbourne.

Yep. My 89 came with the later mufflers and the mount is a good 3" forward.
The po had made a "connector pipe" out of some standard exhaust pipe to span the gap of mounting them to the stock 89 bracket. You can see it here if you zoom in:

That's from 2014 and I've found pics as old as 2013 like that. I bought it in 2015 and am in the process of putting it back to right, at least structurally/cosmetically.
You can also see how it opens up a large gap between the muffler body and the angle of the bracket. I didn't like any of that (bodged/rusting pipe or gap), so I removed the pipe and slide the muffler forward. The angle on the muffler still matches the angle on the hangar bracket, so that's all good. But the hangar bolt is now in the open space in the footpeg bracket. There's enough there for the shoulder of the bolt head to grab and I ran it that way all last year without trouble. Not great for thermal expansion or possible vibration cracking though.
I plan to weld up a small extension to the existing bracket on muffler itself to reach the 89 rubber mount on the footpeg bracket. I'd just get the proper muffs, but they're near impossible to find in good shape (rust, roadrash, etc) and prohibitively expensive when you do find a set.
Extending the bracket is not exactly the most "elegant" solution, but it will work fine and look stock to all but the most discerning fj owner.

Yammy stopped using the foot peg bracket and welded a bracket right off the subframe to hang the muffler.

Mark was having a bit of fun with a recent post where someone, tongue in cheek, suggested I have two bikes, a garage queen for photos and another one for riding. I like to ride in places that get my bike very dirty and l like it clean when I'm done. I jokingly replied about being caught out and accidentally getting "both" bikes in the same photo.
I only ride one FJ.
