I know this isn't normal for an FJ but we have a FJ Engine that will only be drag raced so does not need the oil cooler, anyone know if its ok to blank off the inlet and outlet or will that cause oiling issues elsewhere in the engine?
Thanks
That's a question for Randy or Chris....
I understand that the FJ oil pump has 2 stages. 1 stage sends oil thru the oil cooler and 1 stage sends oil to the engine internals.
A thoughtful design, if you have an oil cooler line leak, you don't loose oil pressure on the engine side (until you run out of oil).
The Legend racers 'shim the oil pump' to provide higher pressure to send the oil thru longer oil lines and larger cooler used on the race cars.
Thanks for that info, sounds like blanking the oil cooler should have no detrimental affect on the engine oil supply then. hopefully Randy or Chris will be able to confirm.
Thanks
The oil lines have to be looped and cannot be blocked off unless you remove the oil bypass in the oil pan.

Thanks Randy, so can I put a hole in the oil gallery where marked? would that not be the same as looping the outlet and inlet? is that what you mean by remove an oil bypass?
What happens if the outlet is blocked does it over pressure the oil?

I ended up going a slightly different route with my dragbike build. I "dry blocked" it and ran the outlet for the oil cooler thru an inline filter and to the head for the cams. In an FJ frame it is ridiculously tight for the fittings, but if you are using a dedicated drag chassis then you probably have plenty of room to work with.
I THINK you can remove the spring loaded bypass just behind the area you highlighted to relieve the pressure if you aren't going to use the oil cooler output side of the pump. BUT PLEASE CONFIRM WTH RANDY OR ROBERT FIRST!
Thanks for that, hopefully that is all that is required, hopefully it can be confirmed.
Yes, remove the secondary oil pump bypass valve and you have the internal leak without any other modifications required.

Excellent, thanks very much will do that this weekend.
