My starter button is hanging by a thread, I have been in there before and the actual plastic button is almost smoked plus my horn comes on by itself when riding down the road. Does anyone know of options other then another 30 year old controls from ebay. On the bright side my singles work like a dream!

You could find a nice set of OEM ones on eBay. Also you could probably adapt a set from another Yamaha model, or even another brand by swapping out the wiring connector on them.
Do an eBay search using: 7/8" Motorcycle Universal Handlebar Horn Turn Signal Headlight Switch Control.
There's examples on eBay using the above search. Their pictures and pricing look good. Not sure about their quality though.
Hi Im pretty sure the fj shares the same switch gear as the yamaha xj 900 diversion ..

I have never cut any singles but I do play guitar! I hate silly errors like that. So the xj 900 might be a match for controls, I will look into further and I guess Ebay is the only way to go. Maybe I will go into my old controls one last time but have to take out the signal switch to get to the horn portion, I use my starter button very gently as it could drop out of place from a heavy push.
I personally do not think there is anything wrong with purchasing 30 + year old controls, after all, the whole entire bike is 30 years old. Look for a set that has little use. They are all over Ebay. I have bought numerous items from this merchant...I do not know the year of your FJ, but here are set of controls he is offering:

He is EXCELLENT! Very reasonable prices and shipping and being from Canada, you do not have to consider exchange rate.
