Welcome to the forum :hi:

In the US they are pretty rare in 2016. They were only imported a year or two and many found their way to racetrack only status. There are a few members here that have one.

A quick look on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_XJ600

The engine is basically the same engine that was used on the original FZ600 and in Europe the bike was labeled as the XJ600 for 8 model years. If you need parts, especially plastics, expect to spend time looking on European/British websites, eBay UK and eBay Germany.

If the picture does it justice, that's a mint condition item.  They pop up from time to time on the internet, but usually not in that condition.  Back in the mid-80's many race schools used them as the standard introductory bike for those getting their racing license, and many people used them on the track for production racing until the FZ's, RG's, CBR's, and RZ's came along.  In Ontario the '80's was a golden age for m/c racing and these bikes provided a cheap way to enter the fray along with the RZ350.

Great find.   :good2:  There are still parts out there, but it looks like this won't need anything for a while yet.

Thanks !! Makes me feel good that you guys like it ...I went with my gut on this .. saw it on CL and made the call that same day and drove to check it out and made the deal .My first bike was an fz700 ..should have never sold it ... I have always loved the Fj's ..I like that there are not to many of these around .. I would only think about aftermarket exhaust but need to ride it  . If the stock exhaust isn't that bad I will leave it be .. appreciate everyone's input , I am sure I will have a lot of questions ..thanks again

Welcome.
That's a very nice bike. Looks like you stole that thing.. Looks to be in cherry condition.
Always liked the 600.
I spent a bit looking for them around before I decided to start looking for a 1200.
Prob. one of my all time favorite bikes is the 85 FZ750. I used to go down to the dealer and just look at the bike, and drool. I've seen a few, but the ones that were cheap were trashed, or 1500+ miles away (doesn't help that I'm a cheap a$$ myself). lol
Enjoy.

Wow, that is a really nice looking "Baby" FJ!  Congratulations on your find.  The previous owners obviously cherished it.

Have fun,
Dean

Congratulations with nice bike.I had exactly same bike with same colors for some years.Great bike and good wheelie bike too in contrast to the fj wich eats front wheelbearings and second gears if you do wheelies. Here in Norway they labeled it xj600.Only trouble i had with it was i often had to do running starts with it because it dident want to start with the starterknob.ecpesally when i had washed the bike even when sealed the plugcaps with plastic bags when washing .Also used wd40 inside caps.My faworite tire on it was pirelli phantoms
they sticked like glue and left a black stripe on the tarmac when riding fast in corners =).I got a crash with the bike when i did  pass  a car and the car dicided he should try to keep
up the speed.About 800yards ahead i had to do a emergency braking  as car in front of me had stopped for no reason in middle of road and i could not go past him because of oncoming traffic and to little space on right side.. I managed to stop ,but then i heard a screatcing sound behind me as he tryed to brake and before i could do anything he crashed into me and the bike was shoot out of my hands hitting the car in front and up in the air.I ended up on the guys windscreen .I got very mad(adrenaline i think) and the guy did not want to come out of his car before the police came =).
