Title: Brake lines - blue spot conversion
Post by: BJohnD on November 04, 2016, 04:19:50 AM
Hi

I have a 1989 FJ1200 3CV, I am about to order & upgrade my front callipers & master cylinder to blue spots etc. from a Fazer 600, I also intend to replace the hoses with braided lines.

As the calliper fitting is different on the blue spots, can anybody advise which lines I should buy? The Fazer lines will have fittings with the correct angles, but I can't find out if they are the same length as the original or if they would fit.

Most good motorbike shops will make the braided lines up for you to the spec you give them or if you feel confidant enough you can buy all the bits you need and make them yourself. It really isn't complicated and I am positive if you try youtube you will find something to show you. However, these are the front stoppers only make the lines yourself if you are confidant in your own  ability.

I was trying to avoid making lines if there are some available off the shelf.

I'm guessing that I will need the same length as the standard lines but with the banjos angled the same as the Fazer ones, but I don't know the lengths. With all the people that have done this upgrade I was hoping somebody would have looked at the Fazer ones & been able to say yes or no, if not, I hoped somebody might be able to tell me what they had fitted.

Consider Spiegler lines, the fittings can be rotated to prevent twist at the time of install. http://rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=S-YA0146&cat=39 (http://rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=S-YA0146&cat=39)

I'm not sure if Spiegler lines are available over here in the UK. I was hoping that with all the people that have done this upgrade I was, somebody would have tried the Fazer ones & been able to say yes or no, if not, I hoped somebody might be able to tell me what they had fitted. Just seems to me that if they are the right length, Fazer ones will have all the angles right already without the need to mess about

I had Russell off the shelf ss lines on my '84 for many years.
When I went to the '92 forks and blue spots all I needed to do was to switch sides on the Russel lines (move right side to left side, etc.)

The off the shelf Russell lines made for the '84 FJ1100 fit just fine on the blue spots.

Hope this helps

I did the exact same thing with my '85 and Russell lines.

Just remember to KEEP (!!!) the old line brackets that are bolted to the front fender mounts.  If you remove them and do not substitute appropriate washers, you WILL break off the fender tabs.

:hi:Venhill do brake hoses that have banjo's at the ends that you can rotate ..they can make up any length of hose just give them a call and they will explain how to measure the length you need ..:)

YES!  Venhill is an excellent resource for "building" your own lines.
