I'd been away from this forum for a while and on my return it seems to me that there has been a change in the culture of the place. I am now routinely insulted for the sin of having acquired a decent education. The "dumbing down" of America gets a fair amount of press and there has always been an anti-intellectual thread in the fabric of American culture, but the hostility to education and critical thinking here seems like a recent development. There is a huge wealth of information here on motorcycles in general and particularly my favorite mount the big FJ's, and there are some really great folks who unselfishly share that knowledge. But the neighborhood doesn't suit me; I find the place has grown tedious. So, I'm gonna leave the village and seek FJ wisdom elsewhere.
Hasta la vista.
Thanks for the memories.

This is the funniest post I've read in awhile. I think Burns posted this on the wrong forum. After all he hasn't been away for long. His post previous to this one was about an hour earlier and he has several posts in the last 12 hours. "Seeking FJ wisdom elsewhere?" There is no better place for FJ wisdom than in the members of this forum.

Actually Burnsie, what you getting is payback for looking down your nose at us 'uneducated slobs'. We're tired of being told how ignorant we are, and how much smarter you and your ilk are. Yet, even while leading & lectured, your 'educated class' have made very good inroads to destroy the USA! From illegal immigration to the national debt to crime, firearms, education, social norms etc., your type tells us WE are backwards & ignorant, yet all of these problems have been flourishing under your leadership! We're tired of it in general and you in particular.
You come to here to preach at us, but we have a meassge you you: You've said enough!
Ed
PS: I hear the Yahoo group is a pretty happening group on all things FJ!!!
Christ Burns, the least you could do is stick around until November 9th!
I thought he was leaving (popcorn)

Thank you Ed. It seems he can dish it but can't take it
With any luck, he's "soul-searching" right now. A lifetime of condescension can creep into your conscience like that.
I can only assume that this is somehow related to the Trump /Clinton thread that I have avoided.
I remember it being election related shit stirring that ultimately imploded the Yahoo forum

...... it has predictably ended like all political discussions......
IMO
I don't know about the US but here, it is absolutely the one taboo subject at social gatherings. Any guest attempting to discuss politics would be avoided by most, asked discreetly to pull his head in, crossed off any future invite list, asked to leave, or, throw in some booze and end the night in a punch up. Everybody knows this and the only time politics is discussed here will be at a gathering of like minded people.
Maybe compulsory voting forces everyone to declare themselves one or the other, I don't know, but discussions between opposing sides never ends well.
I'm surprised Mike Ramos didn't join in.

Yeah, same here in Denmark.
I simply don't understand the "political culture" in US. Not living there, I could decide not to care or comment, but it is a fact that what USA does often has influence on the rest of the world, and that kind of scares me knowng that it will soon be lead by Trump or Clinton.... :empathy3:
Anyway, enough politics, I will go ride my FJ :good2:

Mike joined in very early in the topic. Maybe you should have been reading with more interest...
