Title: FJ 1100 Choke/ signal assembly
Post by: redbeard on October 13, 2016, 05:41:10 PM
Has any one disassembled the choke/signal assembly for cleaning?  My signal switch is gunked up.  I removed the two screws  to separate the 2 halves but cant figure out how to remove the choke ring which prevents it from breaking down into 2 pieces to clean the contacts. I have contact cleaner, contact lube.

Welcome Redbeard, I am sure a few of 84/85 owners will offer some help soon. Is yours an 84' or 85'? Over 30 years old and still going strong.

Redbeard,

It's been a while, but I believe you can slide the control off the handlebar end, then tilt the two halves open (like a clamshell) to separate them from the choke ring.  It may be possible to pivot them apart without removing the grip and the control from the handlebar, and just leave the grip and choke ring on the handlebars.  I got a somewhat good one, used from eBay for cheap.  Then I built one good one from two bad ones.

Cheers,
Red

Robert had it apart last week. I'll have him let you know tomorrow.

Hello laddie, sorry for the late reply. Great to meet you at RPM.
I had to take the grip off mine. No room to move the switch cluster with the grip in place.
I unhooked the choke cable at the carbs. Slide the cluster (and ring) off the bar and then rotate the choke ring. You will find a notch where the ring can detach from the cluster.

Only then can you open the cluster halves for cleaning.

Hope this helps.  Pat
