Hi,
Just checking into the forum, looking at a project bike and joined to do some research and so forth.
Looking at two different FJ's.
First bike is a crashed 1992 FJ1200 - http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/5741611639.html (http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/5741611639.html)
Small dent in the frame and the tank, trashed right side cowl.

Second bike is a 1984 fj1100 - not crashed. - http://seks.craigslist.org/mcy/5708779816.html (http://seks.craigslist.org/mcy/5708779816.html)
Both the same price - similar mileage.
Anyway, that's my origin story. :good2:
Thanks for reading.
Mike
Welcome to the forum :hi:
The 1992 has way more damage than advertised and IMO should be $800.00 tops. The better bet is the '84 model.
I don't know if this '87 has sold. The location is just south of Wichita, Kansas. It may be worth a phone call. Click on the link below.

I am partial to the 3XW models (the 92). If the mileage is correct, it is salvageable. I still would plan to spend $1,000 for nice plastic.....hopefully you get lucky and get it cheaper.....so offer $1,000 max $1500.
Here are two in Quebec as a starting point:

Plan on $100-$150 for freight.

The '84 looks like an '85 if it's a US spec bike.
Unless someone repainted/re-bodied an '84 in next-year's colors.
I would steer clear of the crashed bike unless it could be had for under $800.
A dented frame .... yikes! :shok: Unless you want a long term project I'd go for the 84/85. If the frame is not true you'll be chasing your tail with handling gremlins. In Ontario that would probably not pass a mandatory safety certification, and you would end up with a 600lb lump that is only good for parts.

Nice looking 1987. Did find that one on CL this morning. Will have to send an e-mail/txt. Thanks for the lead and the pictures.
I hope you take a look at the '87, it really is a nice example.
