G'day,
For those that might be keen as the weather improves, a ride is being organised to do the Great road. On September 8th, Thursday, the ride will leave from Arnie's (who has offered free coffee)
From there to Winchelsea and into the hills to Lorne. There are some sweet rides in there, and Arnie's is a great starting point. The various routes can be decided on the day, as some are quite weather dependent.
Times can be agreed on later, early is best I imagine, but that depends on who is coming from Melbourne and needs the extra time to get to Geelong.
Either PM's or via the board to register interest or ask questions...
Lets see if we can get someone from Adelaide?!
Thanks for the heads up, I'm pencilling it in but can't give a "yes" just yet.

Enjoy the ride guys, I'm a no-show (and not just because they are turning Winter back on, on Thursday...)

Not that I was ever formally in, but I'm out. Work and the bike's in bits anyway.
Have fun guys, that's my favourite part of the world on the FJ come rain, hail, wind, snow, sun, cold....anything but traffic.
Noel
Thanks for the heads up guys, although the weather might cloud over later in the day, I reckon the morning will offer some very sweet dry roads. I will be bringing another rider form Ararat way. Hopefully with the sun playing hide and seek, the tourists might have less reason to stop in the middle of the lane to take photos.
One of these days I would like to ride over Adelaide way, visit a relative and meet the FJ owner over there. It must be lonely for the bloke over there, just him. I hear the Adelaide hills are decent riding.
cheers, Gareth

G'day Gareth, funny that you mention that as in mid November, a group of us are doing just that. The Adelaide Hills will be our main ride area whilst we're over there. You're more than welcome to join us if you like. Let me know and I will PM the details.
Regards, Pete.
G'day,
Mid November seems like a good time as any to head over there, the border is only about 3 hours from me. I would like to tag along and see the place. I just checked and there are 3 FJ members of Zeemaps over there, Nchattaway, Pevers, and Aussiefj, not just one as I thought. Anyway, count me in.
cheers, Gareth
G'day,
Well today's ride went great I reckon. Despite the threat of rain, the weather stayed fine with a touch of cloud all day, leaving the roads very dry and the traffic light. After splitting off from Arnie, the two of us headed back towards Colac for our ride north back to Ararat, and thats when the rain hit! Just my luck to be riding roads covered in water with a mostly bald from tyre! But considering it was a 12 hour ride, we saw heaps of sweet countryside, and some great roads!

"G'day Gareth, funny that you mention that 2"
A fortnight today I am going on a coast hugging ride to the Adelaide Hills and staying in Hahndorf. I have arranged to meet up with Nathan (Nchattaway) on the Saturday afternoon for a bit of a ride and coffee. Looks like he'll be spoilt for FJ company over the next month or so.
Noel
Glad you blokes enjoyed the ride. I assume you did the Port Campbell loop heading East back along the GOR?
God's own riding country down there mid week /off season. The Lavers Hill general store is a favourite coffee stop and last time I passed through (August) there was snow and ice. I had to pull off the road a few km's East of there and wait for some cars to break up the ice on the road. This apparently happens once every 10 or 20 years.
Gareth, I'll be passing your backdoor late in the afternoon on Sept 26th (Mon)
I called into to see Arnie the weekend before last, it was good to catch up with him and I miss his input on the forum. He's one of a handful that rarely put a foot wrong offering mechanical/motorbike advice, a shame he's become a cranky ol' bastard.
Noel
G'day,
We left from Lethbridge, then to Colac and then up the Gellibrand road, fantastic bit of road that one, stopped for a break at Lavershill, very nice to riders at that coffee stop. From there we were supposed to head to Apollo Bay, but I think I got a bit lost and we ended up at the Twelve Apostles! Very sweet ride getting there too. From there we rode to Apollo bay, Lorne, Deans marsh before splitting up at Winchelsea. It was good riding with Arnie, he sets a good pace.
I have the 26th Sept off, so I will be able to say hi as you whiz past, just PM the details like time and that, I'll be there.
Cheers, Gareth

Noel, that's pretty much what we intend to do. Keep me in the loop about any good roads and scenery that we should fit into our loose schedule.
It would be great to catch up with you (mid November) along the way, if you can fit it into you busy life.
Regards, Pete. :drinks:
