Oh god, I'm speechless...
I sure can't say what I'm thinking. :ireful:
Bunch of morons. Training guns have plugged barrels, just for this reason. Using a "real" gun is stupid.
Now, I wonder if the cop will be charged with involuntary manslaughter. You and I would be...

CutterBill,
One news program had an expert on, to say (and show) that there are "inserts" which fit into the cylinders of a revolver, so it will
only accept blank cartridges then. They showed the easy slip-in installation of these inserts into the cylinders, and how these inserts physically blocked the use of any live ammo. Only blanks could be loaded, using these inserts.
Sad day.
Both blank-only and Simunitions-only modified guns exist in a variety of flavors.
That PD is run by morons. A training class that isn't specifically a live-fire exercise isn't supposed to have a real gun or real ammo inside of it, for precisely this reason.
Also, the officer in question is a perennial screwup who shouldn't have been a cop. He was let go from another PD, but they let him "quit for personal reasons" rather than fire him for cause.
You ever seen a blue or orange soilid plastic gun like the ones the guys use to train with or even make holsters with? That would have worked just fine for an exercise, anything but a real gun, I mean c mon you dumbass mother F%^#rs really?
I have an airsoft gun that looks and feels just like a Glock 17. I got it in Japan where they aren't required to have an orange tip. If you didn't notice the barrel was only 6mm you'd swear it was a 9mm. Use those for training ferchrissake.
