Now it also had to handle and brake and offer some civilizing wind protection. The day of the air-cooled performance bikes was ending, as emissions restrictions and power demands dictated higher technology. With its DOHC four-valve motor and chain final drive the FJ1100 (and its successor the FJ1200) were the epitome of the air-cooled engine. Today, they live on in the FJR1300 with its liquid cooling, driveshaft, sport-touring fairing and removable saddlebags."
i aint so sure about "living on" in the FJR ..... its a whole nuther animal all together. JMO ;D

I'm with ya Frank, me thinks an XJR 1300 would be closer to the mark!!! It has the same basic donk, oil/air cooled & chain drive. OK no fairing, but that can be fixed & with a few mods to engine & such well she'd be a real BEAST!!!!!
As one of the group who has made the transition from the FJ to the FJR, I definitely see the connection. An evolution, I guess. The FJ feels like a mini-bike to me, now, and much more nimble. But hell, there's been a lot of progress in 20 years. Still love the FJ, love the FJR, and also my ring-ding 250 as well.
