Well it is that time of the year when my thoughts turn to Rally plans. With a great Rally at Harrietville it will be hard to raise the bar again. The 2017 Australian FJ owners Rally will be in Queensland out on the range around Toowoomba. The Venue is yet to be sorted and I have plans to go a scoping in the near future. I will be out riding in late August and early September and may not have the venue pinned down by then but you can all make plans as I will call the date now and somewhere near Toowoomba Queensland.
So the 2017 Australian FJ owners Rally will be Saturday 11th March .
Somewhere near Toowoomba.
Anyone with a idea of Venues let me know.
I'm in! :good: (popcorn)
Yep, me too, that's about a 4k return trip - excellent and no excuse for anything less than 100% QL turnout.
That makes 4 trips in the diary between now and the rally. Yeeees!
Might even shout the FJ a bit of a birthday, other than one valve adjustment, I don't think I've touched it for 100,000kms.
Noel
me three.
Ken, will you be attending and staying mate? You bloody better be! :good2: :good2:
I let Shane my brother know about next years location and he said F#%#$, Toowoomba is only 30 mins from his place, lol  But still looking forward to it. I will have to get to work on the '94 1200 between now and then and get it into shape, not too much to do thankfully.

I suspect he`s busy doing the maths!
" :mail1:.....if tha Canadian dollar is only worth 78 cents U.S. and tha Aussie dollar is worth more than my Canadian dollar, that means I make a profit on every dollar invested in Australian tourism!" ....Square feet assessments he can do in his head!
(unless of course they`re on my footpegs!) (popcorn)

Doug is right..... I get lost whenever negotiating the grey areas......calculating the price and executing the turns can sometimes end up on the low side of an investment........I therefore resign myself to the "cry for help" (or scratching the head)approach. Knowing how the exchange between friends can ultimately lead to a solid return and an eternal reward .......both in time and commerce. Your counsel and direction is requested...........as I am currently ready to invest !!!!! :drinks:
Bueller.....Bueller.......Bueller..... (popcorn)
Can Sno in March (down there)
I will be there for sure. Hope i have the 1100 done buy then .

Ray seems to have them all worked out. There are a lot but the surfaces are a bit rough
There's a couple around that way that I know of Ken. There's the one from Esk up the range via Perserverance dam, Murphys creek rd, another one that goes from Withcott to Flagstone creek rd then via back roads winds its way up to the New England highway, but there's a small bit of dirt on that one.
Depends on what people want, good roads but not much scenery, or scenic but so so roads. Might have to get everyone to put all their ideas in a hat at the Muster over a few beers and work out a route.
I'm happy to go out anytime and have a look around, ride some suggested routes etc Richard, Bones and anyone else to get some feedback going. But yes, one of my faves is Picnic Point-Flagstone Creek Road-Ma Ma Creek-Clifton-Leyburn etc. Has a bit of everything, scenic, twisty, open plains with narrow roads ( bugger all cars) nice. it really is a nice run along Gatton-Clifton Road, it goes from farming/plains to hilly/mountainous, following Ma Ma Creek for a bit, then spits you out of the range overlooking the plains of the Darling Downs, its magical. Theres probably a lot more to see out that way, just have to go exploring, :good2:
But heres a map link I did of a run a while back with some workmates,

Some piccies-- Picnic Point/Ma Ma Creek/Gatton-Clifton Road. Flagstone Creek road coming down the back of the range from Picnic Point is a bit of an eye opener in a couple of sections.
After a somewhat interesting ride to Esk to look at a rally venue I was surprised to find the Grand Hotel under renovations. It should be a great venue if it is completed on time.. I will make inquires to see ...
The Grand Hotel in Esk is planning to open September this year so will be well and truly ready for us in March. I will stay in touch with them and let everyone know when to book accommodation. There a 2 motels in town a short walk from the Venue and also a Caravan park.
Any updates fellas?

OK all you banana benders, how hot and how humid is going to be in 5 weeks time?
Noel
Still expect it to be around 29-30 degrees through the day Noel. Probably a pleasant 20 degrees at night, but I say bring on winter. Had enough of this damn summer

Thanks Ray, what about humidity that time of the year?

Noel, Seeing that summer ends end of February, early March weather in Se Qld is still quite warm to hot days but comfortable to cool nights. We have camped at Easter which is anywhere from late March to mid April and it can get quite cold at night, tee shirt weather for you but seeing the rally is earlier than that plus we'll be indoors by then it shouldn't matter too much. Esk is nestled amongst the mountains so the weather could be anywhere from hot cold or wet. Hope I made your decision on what to pack easier. :scratch_one-s_head:

Pack?? ....I'm worried about riding!
Thanks for the overview of the weather Tony. There's no way I can ride 800-900km days if the temp is going to low 30's+ and high humidity. I get exhausted watching TV when it's humid.
I don't ride much over Summer but thought I would sneak in a quick 300 km ride Sunday am, intending to be back home before lunch and before it got hot. Well, I succeeded with the 300 km before lunch, problem was I hadn't turned around yet! Rode home in the heat and I was perishing, it reminded me how much I hate riding when it's hot and how little tolerance I have for it. I have mesh jacket and pants but for the last hour or so, removed my jacket and rode with my visor up, the bugs bouncing off my face, or at least the ones that didn't get wedged between my head and the side of my helmet.
Noel
Iam going booked in .cant wait had a gr8 time at last rally.

humidity shouldn't be to bad out west of Brisbane that time of year. Even the day time temps should be good.
