Hey folks,
Throttle cable is fraying where it goes into the throttle assembly by the front brake handle. Before I try it myself or take it to a dealer, what is involved?
One cable or two? Does the fuel tank need to be removed? Do you have to do anything to the carbs after you replace the cable?
Thanks in advance,
Shawn
The '86 uses 4 cables. Yes, the tank does need to come off. Since you are needing one of the cables coming from the throttle, there should not be anything that needs to be done on the carbs end. If an adjustment needs to be made, it can be done up near the throttle/switch housing. While you have the tank off, inspect the condition of the other cables and attaching hardware.
Order your throttle cable from RPM. It will be delivered to your door step in 2-3 days. There is a 99% chance your dealer will not have one in stock and will take 3 days to a week to get one in.

I'm really lucky I have a friend that makes custom cables. I had my throttle cable brake. I went to his house and he made one up took about 10 minutes. And he charged Me a buck a minute.

Judging by the questions you've asked, I suggest you take it to a dealer. You obviously have very little or no mechanical knowledge. A throttle cable is not something that should not be fitted incorrectly.

Hello Shawn, good catch. Replace the cable now before it gets you stranded in BFE.
Call Randy at RPM, see what he has for you.
In the days before RPM, I would use the folks at Motion Pro. They have all the Yamaha FJ specs on file and they can make you up whatever you need. It may take a couple of weeks depending on their back orders.
Check first with Randy, he may have something he can ship out to you asap.
Get the cable (actually get both cables, the push cable and the pull cable) we can help you get them on.
Cheers. Pat

No need to call, everything is listed right here:
RPM (http://www.rpmracingca/). I have all four throttle cables in stock. The lower carb side cables have been discontinued by Yamaha but I have them made, on the shelf and ready to ship.
Just search throttle cable on the website and it will bring up everything including the throttle box parts.

Sure beats waiting 4 weeks for Motion Pro to make you a set....
Randy spoils us.
