The recent discussions on seating position and FJ alternatives has got me thinking about eventually buying another sport tourer (some day) and what it would be. Has anyone any experience or opinions on the Triumph Trophy? The $20,000 price tag is about par with the Japanese alternatives and less expensive than the BMW's.

I've always liked the new-ish triumphs - but I would definitely lean toward the speed triple. Although it would overlap a lot with the FJ it would still be in a somewhat different role. Maybe a tiger for more of the adventure role ...
There's so many ways to use a motorcycle it would be very difficult for me to buy another "version" of the FJ - I think the guys with the FJ's and dual sports have got something figured out!

Kurt really put some thought into his modifications. A Beautiful lightweight Akrapovic SS header with a bitchen growl, ecu reflash, RaceTec fork valves, and Ohlins rear shock, a left handlebar switch cluster from a Yamaha Super Tenere incorporating factory cruise control. Stickey tires along with a frame that that gives lots of ground clearance for high lean angles, light @ 450 lbs wet, yea.......with a price of $10k that FJ-09 is hard to beat.
With the price much less than the Triumph.
However, if Triumph can make a 1200cc triple sport tourer, how about Yamaha?
A Yamaha 1200cc triple FJ-12 would be bad ass.
Prolly not gonna happen with the current 1250cc FJR hanging around? Yamaha needs a full touring bike. Punch the FJR out to 1400cc and position that bike to compete with the BMW's, Goldwings, etc. and thus opening up a niche for a 1200cc triple sport touring bike.

A couple of corrections though. I have an Arrow exhaust. I don't like how the Akrapovic fits. My forks have Traxxion Dynamics AK20 fork cartridges. Rear shock is a Penske twin clicker.
You can buy an FJ-09 and still have $10,000 left over for upgrades. One of the members of the FJ-09 forum "said it is a better bike than the multistrada he had also". He sold the multistrada.

Yamaha, also has a one liter, three cylinder engine. That is used in some of the side by side ATV's.
