Title: Score.
Post by: JPaganel on June 27, 2016, 08:38:59 PM
So, this happened.

(http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll41/JPaganel/Vehicles/1993%20FJ1200/20160627_195615_zpsfoocdjrq.jpg) (http://s285.photobucket.com/user/JPaganel/media/Vehicles/1993%20FJ1200/20160627_195615_zpsfoocdjrq.jpg.html)

1993 ABS. Corbin seat, full Givi bags. Cruise control. Supposedly clean carbs.

Classic oil leak from top front - bet it's the valve cover gasket and donuts.
Clutch seems to have no pressure whatsoever.
Side panels are floptastic.

Battery is toast, so unclear how good of a runner it is.

Still, not bad for $700.

Good job! Glad that you got it. I saw that pop on CL, and knew it wouldn't last out there very long.

You didn't even feel guilty?  Well I wouldn't either really....   :pardon:  Congrats!  Now wheres the cigars?   :drinks:

Very nice!  I have the same bike, with the Corbin seat that I just got done with all the maintenance.  Man, those 9 brake/clutch lines were a pain..  I'm local so happy to chat to you about it.

Now just sell me that luggage rack!!   I have the tail case, but need the side ones.

HA!

You oughta see the set of bags I got for the XJ... Minty.

Also, I got with a friend in Germany and there is a set of dual-caliper Euro-spec XJ550 forks headed my way. ;)

How is that XJ550 working now?  I just have to swap out my front springs and oil for progressives on my Seca and apply the new decals and I'm done.

I just replaced on the o-rings in my FJ1200 and all brakelines, and darn it, the front calipers are dragging just a bit on the disks.  No idea why.  I did change all the seals.  Unless someone from this group has a better idea, I'm going to unbolt them and see if I can use some kind of clamp to push them in a bit (without detaching the lines) to see what happens.  I can't believe that a seal was put in wrong or there's remaining corrosion on the pistons, because I looked at them closely.  Come visit if you want to see it.  I'm at hwy 36 and Rice St.

It's running pretty good, except the front brakes. They are kinda weak.

I'm hoping the conversion to dual disk will fix that.

Dragging might come from air in the lines or from problems in the master. Never really seen it be a caliper problem.

If you are talking light contact ("just a bit") as opposed to actual dragging, that is normal for disc brakes.

If you can feel or hear it when rolling the bike or turning the wheel but it spins freely, that is normal.

If the wheel will not spin freely off the ground, well then, it is dragging and needs to be looked into.
