+1 on that! I could siphon enough gas out of the plow truck to make it to Maine. Even convince the family to follow along in the chase vehicle. What good roads have ye there? Come on Northeasterners! Let's hear it!
Maine isn't known for flat or straight roads, there is plenty of mountains on the west side and coastline on the east side. maybe before i consider starting something, it would be nice to know how many of you guys are interested? :good2: :good2: well lets hear it.
Travis398,
Let me know, I will help. I would want to check on road conditions. Up in Bangor they are little better then carriage roads. Acadia National park would be good I think, especially the Cadillac Mountain rd. How are the roads in the Carabasset valley?

Murray, that's pretty accurate. I was thinking more along the lines of 'goat paths' as a descriptor for the Bangor area roads. However Rt#9 (the airline) is in good shape now. A possible loop could be Bangor to Ellsworth and continute on Rt#1 to Calais and then back to Bangor via Rt#9. Mapquest says it's a 245mi // 5-1/2 driving time.
Also, in Ellsworth, we'd only be 30 minutes from Bar Harbor/ Acadia Nat. Park if anyone would be interested in that 2 hour tour.
The drive up the coast is senic, though I havn't done it in many years--(road condition?) Also, these roads aren't "the twisties" ---pretty much touring. Except of course for the ride up Cadillac Mountain if we went to Acadia--it's like going up a spiral staircase with no handrail.
I'd be interested.

the roads in the mountain areas are really good, at least rt. 26 all the way to New Hampshire you could loop around that way or go through the rangley lake area and come back on rt 26 i would have to check the milage. looks like it would be a ride. i also hear 201 toward Canada is a really scenic route with some twisty sections. maybe we could do the coastal route one day and mountain route the next? maybe find a campground site in the middle somewhere to stay?
Travis398,
We used to ride the kangamagus hiway --east central N.H.-- back in the '80s. Same general area that you are talking about??? I remember it being scenic and twisty. I'd go for that too.
Were are you located?

yes the Kancamagus highway is an awsome ride, maybe some riders from NH would be interested too?
This is beginning to sound good, the Kancamagus was going to be my first shakedown run on the new mods! How about the Mt. Washington road? Any advice from the seasoned rally folks on order of operations to get this thing rolling?

you're doing just fine..... this is exactly how the first rally was initiated.... few guys on the internet get together for some riding ......plan the meet up location(s)/ time/date
meet up.
scope out potential routes over a morning cup o'joe
everyone gets their ride on.
find some good places to eat along the way..... BBQ will get Henry there
end each day with a few cold one's around the biggest campfire you can get away with.......
Ta DAAAAAA... a rally !
go for mid summer (June/July) and i'll ride up for it..... :good2:

I'm already in Maine, so I sure can't throw out a low number ...
or a high number. Input from the Rally experienced?
Usually depends on the "twistiness" of the roads.
In Boone, 250 miles is a full day due to the high density of twisties and the lower average speed.
In Texas, we have to do 200 miles in 3 hours just to get to the twisties. :-(

assuming people would want to do a coastal ride and a mountain ride ie acadia and the Kancamagus highway. the middle point would be somewhere between Gardiner and Auburn. that would mean a trip to kancamagus highway, and up 93 (which looks like a very cool ride) would take about 6 hours round trip, unless i started driving like i did 20 years ago.
i think that is about the limit of what i would be able to sit on my bike for one day, if we wanted to climb mount washington (another great idea) we would probably have to start a little more west to make up the extra time, or visit the coast a little more south. where it is closer.
it's cool if everyone wanted to do an 8 or 10 hour ride but i might have to take a short cut and give my butt a rest. ( and start drinking beers without you)

At the West Coast Rallies we find that 170 - 200 ish miles is about a perfect day.
Well I just posted this and it disappeared, let's try again. Things are gathering momentum, Very cool! I think I could handle about 6 hours a day, whatever mileage that racks up depending on the route. Any more and I'll need bar risers and a new seat (for the bike, not me.) I haven't logged any long hauls on the FJ, good excuse to practice. Anybody up for prerunning the area in April/May??
Doug
I am, Travis and I were going to do some preruns to check time and miles. The more FJs the better

i am so glad you posted this, i wanted to say this but thought i might get ribbed for being a wussy.
Whaaaaa, my elbows hurt
Whaaaaa, my back is locking up
Whaaaaa, my butt is sore.
well i don't have the bar risers either and after a few hours i find myself ready for a break.
a six hour ride might not be too bad if you have a couple scenic stops, lunch, fuel stops and bathrooms breaks.
that would probably be closer to an 8 hour day by the time it is over with.
i noticed the local guys are jones-ing for a ride and spring fever is starting to sweep through so i started a new thread
"North East day rides" in the "Join me for a ride section". this way we can keep all the local talk over there and keep the rally talk here.
i have a few other pretty good ideas for the rally but i want to let this thing grow and see what the FJ community is interested in doing
like some of that BBQ-Lobster.
Hey guys,
New guy and a lurker here. I am down outside of Worcester MA. I would love a Maine rally, getting down south is a little hard with 2 young kids. My folks are in Harpswell outside of Brunswick on the coast. I can help with a coastal route if needed, I can also provide mechanical help if needed during the rally.
Also looking for other riders for the occasional blast on a weekend.

Now we're talkin'...... mmmmmmm BBQ lobster.... is there even such a thing ?
a 6 hour rally riding day day is usually about 8 hours ( or more).... we like to take scenic breaks and sit down lunches if we know the routes /times. You guys that live up there are gonna have to do some route "legwork"...... don't worry it's not really work as long as you're on your FJ's :good2:

Hey Dan (captaudi),
Welcome to the group! Nice to hear another local(ish) voice. This is a fun place to be, lots of helpful folks. How's the riding weather down there?
The weather down here has been crap, small amount of snow almost every morning and cold. I have not had the FJ out since the end of november . I am hoping for a couple of good rides this spring, riding season is almost upon us. I no longer need headlights all the way to and from work.
Looking forward to a ride up in Maine, let me know if I can help

Hey Bob,
What kind of shop. I am a 20 year german car tech, 16 with Audi at the dealer. I am usually in Harpswell about every 2 months some my folks can see the kids. Unfortunately in the the family truckster. Love to hook up with other FJ owners. I have had mine for 5 years, bought it with 6k miles and now I have 54k.

Hi Dan
I sell utility trailers, mostly enclosed. The shop looks less like a trailer repair shop, more like a BIG toy box right now. Just getting back in to the street thing.

okay guys i have been looking and thinking of places for us to stay for the rally, there is plenty of campgrounds, buy my nights in a tent ended years ago. hotels or motels don't really give us a spot to let loose. if everyone had motor homes RV parks would work, but i'm thinking most people are like me, no motor home.
also our state is so big we can't really ride in it all in just a couple days. it seems most people were interested in the mountain roads. which is perfect for off season rentals in the ski areas. Sunday river is probably the best spot. the rates are pretty reasonable in the summer, we would be able to stay right in the mountains, there is (i think) a night club up there and a spot for us all to hang out together. this would be perfect for the wife that is worried about their privacy, and perfect for the guys that can only go by convincing the wife it is a vacation. they also run the Gondolas in the summer time, giving the wife's something to do if the boys wanted to go riding alone.
i would love to stay in the Rangley lake area beautiful scenery great mountain rides but makes for a 3 hour ride just to get to the Kancamagus highway.
Sebago Lake has a lot of cottage/cabin rentals but this is in the peak season and not as close as Sunday river is.
just some thoughts i would love to hear peoples reactions.............
James here,
I'm down is Salem, MA and plan to get the FJ on the road next week. :good2: I'd be up for some scouting rides any time. Been up to the Kancamangus a number of times. 617-719-6448. Work will always keep me from gettin' to Boone, and the Fall rally is a two year planning thing. A rally up this way in July would be great.

Are you familiar with the KOA campground and the Kabins? the set up they offer works great for rallies and I would think that anything similar would work. For reference we use the Tellico Plains TN, and Boone NC KOA's for the east coast rallies. there should be more info here:

i think we can do Mt Washington and the Kancamagus no problem. hit mount washington first only aprox 1 and half hours from sunday river (to the top) depending on traffic. but then take a counter clockwise rotation around the white mountains come down 93 ( a road i was hoping to ride on) straight to the Kancamagus.
i have about 3 or 4 routes mapped out, each around the 6 hour drive. but i am assuming we won't be spending a lot of time below the speed limit.
anyways i am trying to figure out how to post maps on here i'm getting closer

this might work 184 miles about 5 hours 23 minutes.
A is sunday river
B is mt. washington
C is Kancamagus start
D is Kancamagus end.
E back to start.
most of these roads are on google earth where you can see street view just like your riding on the road. check it out.
The map makes it REAL! That is a great route, I guess I'll stop looking through my falling apart road atlas and sign on to this plan. If anybody wasn't up for the full haul they could cut down 16 after Mt. Washington to Conway and make a shorter loop back. Incredible job planning and listening to everyone's input.
what is the pavement like up there?
What is this "pavement" you speak of? Hopefully by June/July the ground will have thawed and the bigger holes will be patched. I remember NH roads (2 yrs ago) being very smooth compared to VT.

Be aware that national or state park roads can be VERY crowded even on weekdays.
I found that out the hard way on a Tuesday ride through the Great Smokey Mountain National Park.
Holy Crap! That wound up being a 50 mile crawl through a slow-rolling parking lot.
Never again!

personally i prefer riding over the mtns rather than around them....elevation and curves are good for the soul and my personal favorites...... the more curves and elevation the better .... preferably with the lowest amount of 4 wheel traffic possible :good2:
dont worry so much about the mileage and concentrate on the best riding.....if making a loop is boring then find some good twisty roads to do out n back's on. I know what the regular rally folks are used to and it's not straight and/or boring roads.

we definitely need to have the rally at some sort of campground with cabins like a KOA.... someplace where we can have a fire.... we HAVE TO HAVE A FIRE ! I think that's gonna be the number one thing to finalize quickly so that reservations can be made asap.

It's OK, ME/NH has plenty o' firewood. Went for a ride today and somehow the wind just blew me toward NH, crossed the river just to say I was there. Incredible views of the White Mountains with afternoon sun on the snow. Kind of chilly 110 miles with no grip warmers, but I must start the training regimen now if I expect to be ready for the NEFJR'10. It is a transitional time here, met plenty of snowmachines at crossings, both of us saying what the hell are YOU doing? Thankful for air cooled engines, warm the left hand on uphills, right hand on downhills with the clutch pulled in. Sorry to hear about the no assholes rule, I was so looking forward to being myself.

only reason i said anything about assholes is the guy that Danny brought to the spring rally..... he was a decent fella until he started tossing back a few then he did a jeykl and hyde
definitely was over the top and almost got his ass beat.... ask Eric Gellin Mcclellan.... he had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more self control than i ever would have given the same situation..... shit i almost popped the guy in the mouth just from overhearing his BS.

Others more familiar with this areas should chime in, but my experience with VT, NH, ME Parks driving has not been bad -at least mid-week. Plenty of opportunities to get in trouble -and few rangers -unless that's changed in the past few years. I was last up that way in a cage maybe 6 years back, and made several mental notes along the way that 2 wheels would be preferable on this road and that one etc.
I know that Smokey Mountain National Park crawl, and you're right David, it's frequently bad, and it always leaves wondering where the hell all of these campers come from...
I have some interest in this North East Rally concept. It's slightly closer to PA than either of the southern spring/ fall rallies. -Which always helps. I see food and roads and assholes discussions but nothing on dates. As always, time (when and how long with +/- 27 years notice) is the critical bit for attendance for me. Anyone give any thought to when?
Just asking...

there is more moose up here than people, most of the tourists are on the coast. nothing is set in stone, i am trying to get a feel for what everyone wants before i finalize something. i was thinking 3 nights and a 2 day ride. unless everyone wants more.
and yes other bikes are welcome just break it to them easily that their bike won't be one of the cool looking ones.

Any ideas what there are for accommodations in the Sunday River area? I checked and there are no KOA facilities in Maine. Is there a campground? And are there cabins, or are tents the order of the day. I am with Frank we will need a bonfire and lots of firewood.
Cheers,
Dan [J]
I am trying to get a hold of the maine campground ass. sold them a trailer couple years back. As soon as I here I will let you know.
He will be able to let me know which campground we can have a bonfire? (depends on conditions) drink and be loud. any other must haves
those sunday river condo's are off season rates and if everyone wants to cram in the same room (cabin) the condos would be as cheap as 50 bucks a night.
there are several houses on near by ponds and even sebago lake, but it is something like a couple grand to sleep 22. if i had all the money i would just rent one for a week and say everyone is invited. maybe someone reading this wants to kick in all the money for that 5 million dollar beach home for the week, cool i'm there.
till then the two bedroom two bath room fully furnished condo for 169 a night sounds pretty hard to beat. no tent no cabin just fully finished living quarters ready to go.
another thing how many people are bringing motor homes? do we need hook up for them also? this is still 4 or 5 months away so don't get all pressured to make plans tonight. and yes if someone finds a place near the route speak up we can stay there i'm open to what the riders want.
i'll make a phone call or two but i thinking i will be able to guarantee the bone fire but probably not the lobster :flag_of_truce:
i was wrong with some of the numbers in that post, i am seeing a luxuries condo mid week prices as low as 12.50 per person a night. thats probably cheaper then the tent lot you have to rent from the campground :dash2:
can i camp in the yard?
i will have hammock and tent (cause i like being prepared )
Kookaloo!

I think we're on the right track with the cabin rental and tent site availability. I called the campground site above--they only have one cabin for rent and one pop up trailer for rent. I'll be looking too. we'll find something.
http://www.sebagolakecottages.net/rates.html (http://www.sebagolakecottages.net/rates.html)
these are a little further away, no motor home or camper hook up and i don't think any tent areas either
I filled out an 'event' search on a site called --Eventective-- for the Bethel Maine area. Who knows, maybe something will come of it. I made us out to be a group of fine upstanding individuals.
I'm finding some good deals (home/cottage/vacation chalet) rentals with space for up to 7 , but harder to find a place to accomodate 10 -20.
Not to try and move the rally to New Hampshire, but what about starting on the other side of the loop. Twin Mountain NH has a KOA with cabins. It is right new Mt Washington and we could run the same loop.

Word.
Sounds good so far, but are forgetting/getting further away from the lobstah? I was going to check with one of the (side of the road) seafood trucks to see if we could get a bulk rate on lobster and steamer clams. However, we are now getting 4 hours plus away from the low cost, off the boat seafood. My wife would be willing to make the run for us though. Just a thought
Ummmm, we need to look at the :diablo: rules  on these campsites. I think we need one that would let us take over an area just for us.
its a bit of a haul but i noticed the koa in saco has a few cabins for rent, that would put us near the coast and a good ride towards the mountains
lobsta If someone is willing to cook them my buddy takes them out of the sea I'm sure I can get a good deal
or we can go to one of many resturants in the area and eat like kings
If I can use my buddies motorcycle trailer I am willing to bring the larger lobster pot, burner and tank of gas. It means I will have to trailer the FJ but in the interest of lobster and steamers for the group I will make the sacrifice. :cray:. If I go down this road I can also bring other cooking methods as well. Like a small wood fired smoker for pork shoulder or the Weber gas grille for burgers one night. I am willing to handle cooking if the group puts in for the ingredients.
Cheers,
Dan
Travis398, sorry, I didn't mean we should get closer to the coast mainly, closer to the lobster. Personally, I would rather be closer to the riding (White Mountains, New Hampshire etc.) If the tourists are still here, route 1 on the coast is one big parking lot. :dash1:
captaudi, I will gladly contribute to the foods, and would like to offer help :good2: in the cooking area. Also, I will probably be bringing a Suburban and the bike, so I could bring some cooking equipment that you might not have.
Murray from Maine
just throwing the saco thing out there, it would cut a few hours off the ride for people coming from south, it looks like it has everything people want, cabins, tenting area, RV area, it would put us close to the coast for those that would want a coastal ride the day before or after the rally. the white mountain loop and Rangley loop would be aprox. 6 hours. depending on traffic and time we may have to ride the highway for few miles 1 way for rangley. plus it doesn't seem like a family oriented camping spot making it easier for us to raise hell :diablo:
Saco looks good too. I think we need to make sure wherever we are they allow bonfires I mean small campfires :good2:. Mt Washington is a couple hours away as is Rangeley. Looks like we could make 2 good loops fairly easily. Makes the seafood option easier and is right on a major route so getting to the rally for out of staters is a piece of cake.
Keep up the good work guys, I need a little throttle time!
Cheers,
Dan
hey guys just talked to Nancy from the Saco KOA. i told her i have a group of old, loud, bone smokin', beer guzzling bikers who want to yell vulgar things over the camp fire, that may burn out of control due to impaired supervision. "do you have any thing for us"?
She says "yes".
:yahoo:
anyways we can get 3 cabins one tent spot and one RV spot, all near each other k14 k7 k8 w9 and 58
late comers will have to fend for them selves but may still get in on the group discount of 10%.

Just some info for people who may not be familiar with the state of Maine and what to expect from riding along the coast.
The coastal riding (Route #1) from Kittery (southern tip of Maine) to Mount Desert Island (Mid Coast / Acadia National Park is here) is going to be very heavy traffic from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The furthur south you are, the more congestion there will be. Kittery to Portland has alot of retail stores and it can sometimes be, as Murray said, a parking lot.
North of Portland to Mount Desert Island--there are alot of small coastal towns to go through that will provide you with the classic - rocky coast of Maine/Maine fishing village/ atmosphere. A great ride for you (and the misses) if you like to stop at gift shops, coastal/ seasonal /lobster seafood restaurants, antique shops and pretty much just want to putt around and look around. Mount Desert Island has Acadia National Park and has some great scenery and you can see the highlights of this park in about 2 - 4 hours. The Jordan Pond House Restaraunt is in the park and is very good and a scenic spot for lunch.
North (Still on Route #1) of Mount Desert to Calias, the road opens up, there are fewer people, less traffic, and the small towns are spread out. Beautiful drive---not a particularly twisty road, but it has it's spots and is scenic . This is more "rally like" riding, the only problem with this drive is now you are pretty well committed to the far eastern (Downeast we call it) part of the state. Mapquest says 7 hours from Saco to Calais--one way.
I'm just throwing this out there so people have an idea of what to expect if they want to do coastal riding.

Where is the Paypal button? I'm in. Travis, you had me at "she said "Yes"". Damn that was funny.
Just so you guys know i did call the KOA in the Twin Mountains, and the lady was nowhere near as nice, giggly, and helpful as Nancy.
in fact she was kind of rude and sounded like she really didn't want to help much at all. what i did get from her was aprox. 140 dollars more for
the same lodging as saco per night, and there wasn't even a hint of a discount anywhere in her voice.
also some of the cabins have been booked making it hard for us to stay in the same area.
from the poll most of us want the mountain rides both days, so i don't envision us riding on rt. 1 much at all.
since we are not doing a coastal route i thought maybe we could throw a bone to the people who voted
for the coastal ride by staying close to the coast.
that way on the way to or from the rally they could check out LL. Bean, or Cabala's or Old Orchard Beach or Kennebunkport.
because it is close by. plus the people driving from south would have a big head start on things by leaving Saco as apposed to
the White Mountains.
Saco isn't my place of choice, but it does seem like the pieces are falling in place for it.
and i need more than just carsick to say it sounds good, he would agree to anything
i wish i knew the area up there better.. the maps dont show traffic.
if the coast is anything like the coast here in NC it's not fun as far as riding goes.... straight and sandy.
1)we need a list of those interested in attending... guests, wives, pets etc
2) accomodations required for them to attend.... camp? hotel? RV?
3)a firm date
once we have a firm date we can decide on a place to stay and make reservations.
I'm going to start the list and a couple of polls in the rally section.. the result will determine the next move.
KOokaloo!
I am on board for Saco, no questions asked. It looks like we can have 3 kabins which they say 2 adults each, 1 RV slot and a tent spot. Sounds to me like we need a rollcall and were people prefer to sleep. I will admit to my preference being a kabin, but flexible.
Set the date, tell me who to pay and I am in.
Cheers,
Dan
Just cast my votes in the Rally section. Thanks Frank  If your interested in attending get on over there and weigh in.
The Saco camp seems like the most accommodating so far, and it will be easy enough to ride away from the crowded coastal areas. I think weekday dates would be better.
Any of you Maine guys have a line on a saw mill where we can get slab cuts? They work out great for fire wood.

I will volunteer my moderate amount of tools and a good sized charcoal grill. I will also bring as much firewood as I can fit into the trailer with the bike. If some from away want to UPS stuff they don't want to carry on their bikes to me, I can tote it to the rally site. Then before you go, just drop off at a ups store to go back.
I found another possible option for us --this one is in Bethel Maine, 1 hour 53 minutes closer to the mountains than Saco.

I spoke to Michelle at the campground. They have a variety of sites as well as group sites with campfire area. The group sites are away from the smaller sites...she said a perfect place to make a fire and drink beer. She has no problem with motorcycles--or their drivers--her family rides--they have and have had motorcycle rallys there and she seemed familiar with the routine.
The group site is $7/ tent minimum of 10 ---($70) these group sites are 'primitive sites'--no water or electricity, however there is a bath-house handy to to the site.
tent sites with water & elec are $26
camper sites for $28 -$30.
She has a camper for rent that sleeps 3 for $90
She has a condo that sleeps 4 for $100
The motel next door has rooms with 1 queen and rooms with 2 double beds. $49 on weekdays---$75 on weekends
I havn't been there but can check it out if there is interest.
Both the motel and campground have openings in July and august.
I'm not trying to undermine the Saco option however, Any interest in this option??
Very interested! Bethel is about 1/2 hour from Mt Washington, and very near the rest of the white mountains. And Rt 2 (road that Bethel is on) is on the way to some good roads. Check the web sites Mark has listed out and then check a map.
Mark,
Bethel strikes me as the best place ..... that gives everyone an option and puts us close to the good riding.
let's get a few more replies here and settle the dates and then we can make reservations.
i'm thinking we should have all the major details settled by the end of the week.

Folks-
We should probably be a bit careful on bringing our own wood. I have stayed at camp grounds/ cabins where they forbid bringing your own as, depending on how far the wood is being brought in from, it can import destructive bugs/ funguses etc.
Collecting/ buying local may be the way to go. I know the other east coast rallies tend to get a big pile delivered from somewhere local.
Just an FYI for consideration.

Dan, good point--I will check with the owners before we go--where ever we end up. I'm bringing a truck and a trailer so I can definitely bring fire wood if they permit it. I can bring a grill also. and a screen tent to throw gear in if needed. and some tarps

In our conversation, when I told her that a campsite next to mom and dad their two toddlers probably wouldn't work, she mentioned that its mostly adults who stay there--not many kids usually and that the group sites are not right next to the tent sites.

Good point about bringing in fire wood from another state. Just read and article in the local newspaper about banning it from Maine. Hancock Lumber has a sawmill in Bethel, I'll call there tomorrow and see what they do with their slab cuts.

Ummm, a lot of you do not know my history. I used to ride a Harley when young. Bought my FJ last spring after not riding for 20+ years except for a few rides from hell on a friend's Honda 900rr(I did not like having the front wheel of the ground for a hundred feet or so). Last year I only road about 1500 miles due to weather and my left testicle ending up inside my abdomen :bad:from the bike. This condition did finally diagnose a hernia I had for 6 years. Had my operation (open) on Dec. 24. Recovering nicely. I have been riding as much as I can (about 150 miles) in the last week.
So the question is, can any body help me adjust my training wheels?? :unknown: But seriously, I will only ride at my skill level, I won't mind riding at the back, or riding alone if I can't keep up. I hope this attitude won't upset to many. :negative: I would love to have someone help me back up to "speed". I used to be a very good rider years ago. I do NOT feel that I would be a danger to others, and am comfortable at my skill level.
Does any one think that I can get my health insurance company to pay for my FJ as a medical diagnostic tool? Lets see 6 years, 5 specialist, too many mri's, CAT scans and ultrasounds, enough prostate exams for 2 life times (seriously, 5 in one visit to the hospital) and no right diagnoses. The FJ did it all in one summer, so I am thinking it was worth $60,000 to 80,000?
No need to ride beyond you abilities at any FJ rally.... we are all there to have fun and our goal is to return safely from each and every ride. we all agree to ride "the pace"
http://micapeak.com/info/thepace.html (http://micapeak.com/info/thepace.html)
over the years as the rallies have continued to grow we do tend to split up into multiple groups of like minded riders..... this rally in Maine will be a lower number of riders so splitting up isnt going to be an option. However no matter how slowly you ride you will still be able to catch up at the turns (we will wait) and we will all have fun.
I would rather wait an hour at each turn then all day at the hospital.
After all at the end of the day F U N is what its all about no matter how you have it fast or slow(er)
Kookaloo!
Frank
Thanks to everyone up in Maine for doing the legwork. :hi:. As far as adjusting the training wheels, I am a FJ rally virgin myself, happy to help and enjoy the ride. I have it on the calender and am ready. If there are guys interested in sharing a cabin or a room contact me and lets set something up. Also, any of the guys riding up from the south, I am on the major route heading north, lets try to hook up and caravan.
Side note, first ride of the season today. 45 minutes at 80 MPH at 35 degrees lacked fun. The way home was 62 and sunny :yahoo:
Kookaloo!!!

I've never felt 'pushed' to ride beyond my limits at a rally. Not too many mountains at home, so it takes some time to adjust. But anyone is cool with flat-landers taking it easy. :good:

Hey Frank,
I am in Shrewsbury MA. When you come up through CT to MA you will probably run up 84 to MA pike to 290 to 495. I am 1.5 miles off RT 290, easy on, easy off. Google maps shows just under 4 hours to Bethel. Happy to provide anything needed.
By the way, I would love to pick your brains about your bags, if you get a chance PM me.
Thanks,
Dan
I'm sure that were all smart enough to realize are abilities, once we ride a little while groups will form. It's been 20 plus years off a road bike for me till I bought my 86 in oct.09. I have raced dirtbikes in just about every format you could. But street bikes never that confident (I don't back it in like my ice bike) I plan on running sweep I'll enjoy some company

Hi Dan,
I'm in Salem, MA let me know what route you'll be taking and I'll meet up.
As far as the pace. I started riding only 7 years ago at 45 and went to my first Rally in '06. I had never and I mean never ridden roads like the ones at the Rally. Never felt pushed or left behind. Got passed by a Goldwing on the Dragon. One great thing about being slow is you become the subject of some great photos!! :good: As Frank likes to say...."It's all good"!

Thanks guys, I was nervous about riding with more experienced sport riders. When I rode with the my Harley friends, up to 70 bikes, we often ended up with some street "squirrels". They were dangerous, would not stay in line, weaving through the formation like we were pylons, Pissing of the natives with their "cool" drag pipes. It got tiring waiting for the ambulances, the cops to write the tickets. Often groups would just break off and go our own route to get away from them. It seemed like there were just fewer and fewer "real" riders, ones who rode to work every day, all weather, to whom riding was a lifestyle, not a fad. To most of us, our bikes were like horses, you took care of them and didn't abuse them. We fixed them ourselves, made pieces that we couldn't afford. Then it all seemed to change, we got the weekend warriors, the ones who just bought their bikes from the dealers all prettied up. They did not seem to have to save for months to add something. They were posers who's numbers just overwhelmed us. The big clubs were starting to come to Maine about then, so most of us just hung up our jackets and gave up.
The local sport riders (young) around here remind me of the "squirrels" :bomb: of old. They ride by my trailer park at night, pull the clutch and share with us the sound of 15,000 rpms, repeatedly. I have seen riders in two pieces after doing wheelies in traffic. Kids who brag about broken bones caused by stupid behavior. And they are treated like hero's by others. They make fun of me when I won't race them. So I am glad to have found some of the spirit of the mature riders here.
I know, I know, Long rant, as I am wont to do. :ireful: Anyways, I look forward to meeting you all! :yahoo:

My backrest is an orange traffic cone.
You know it's all relative. I spent the winter commuting in my old Mercedes diesel. I sit in the middle lane 70 MPH listening to talk radio. Yesterday was the first day on the FJ. I came up on someone in the left lane, BMW talking on the phone. I start grumbling for him to move over. Then I look down and I am running 90 MPH. I guess what makes a pylon relative.
Cheers,
Dan
ssuv93, sorry don't know your name.
there is a book by Nick Ienatsch called" sport riding techniques" that can be found at most m/c stores or at www.bullpublishing.com (http://www.bullpublishing.com)
Read it , live it , love it.
He is also the Author of "the pace". You will find it very informative and soon realize you already do a lot of things in the book already but just didn't know why.
I hope that helps you, and you will be able to enjoy the rally.
Thanks all for putting up with me. racerman_27410, the "pace" was great for me. It made things make sense. As some stated, I do some of the things already, but it was good to see it in print so I could understand why I was doing it. As far as the jokes about being a pylon, I own an FJ now, so at least I can be a fast pylon. :yahoo:

its not about being fast.... its about being smooth, picking good lines thru the corners and staying mentally in the game and aware of your surrounding at all times. :good2:
your FJ only wishes to transport you in comfort, safety and style....but it can only do that if you are in absolute control of it.
I look forward to riding with you in a few months :good:

the roads should be cleared off, i can see MT. Washington from my couch and there is still a bunch of snow on it, looks like rain over there for monday and tuesday and in the 40's for the rest of the week. might want to wait a week, i may be able to meet you over there and take the ride with you depending on when you decide.
Thanks Travis. :hi: I'll see how the work shapes up.
hey guys just got back from Bethel i visited the pleasant view campground, i couldn't ride through the place because there was still snow and ice covering the camp sites. there is a good size area out back that would make a good spot for the fire, the couple of condo's they have are a little ways away, and the motel is up the road a little ways too, but i guess there is a trail in the woods to get there.
it doesn't look like we would be able to be grouped together in one area, if we decide to stay there we should make reservations quick lots of places are booking up already, i didn't ask what was available for that weekend, looks like there should be plenty of tent sites and i may just be in the motel anyways.
it was a good sign when we pulled in and the owner was sitting on the bank with a beer in his hand, seems like we would fit right in.
i also checked the saco thing for that weekend (july 15-18) and according to the web site all the cabins and cottages are available making it possible for us all to stay in a group. but its not close to the mountains.
That place was cool. I think it will be a great place, the field out back should be plenty big to do what we want to do. if we move quickly and get a big part of the field reserved for us (better for the party). those who are camping
condos 200 yard walk, motel 500 yard. he did say that he would give us group rates even if we are separated.
They both seemed like real nice people
I think from saco most of the ride will be coming and going. plenty of good places to drink & eat, yes BarbQ too in bethel (less traffic)
OK, who has reservations where at Pleasant River campground in Bethel, Maine? I'm going to call them and I want to know where we're grouping up, plus make sure I get the "group" rate. I'm fine with a tent spot, hope for good weather. What about reserving the field, do we need to pitch in funds ahead of time for that?
Doug
we haven't made the reservations yet, as we are waiting to hear from one last place. pleasant view is on RT. 2 in west bethel.
we probably will all have to pitch in for the group/bonfire site.
Are North East Rallies so popular we need 4 threads to talk about them? :unknown:
Well I just penciled this onto the calendar.I got the FJ running reasonably reliably last fall and this sounds like a fun weekend.I live in nearby NH and I have driven, but not ridden through a lot of Maine.

i was wondering why there wasn't anyone from NH interested in this, :drinks: glad to have you aboard.
also i have to throw this out to everyone interested in the North East Rally, we have the weekend scheduled, (16'th and 17'th)
but a couple of people have talked to me that are going to the rally and have expressed problems with the Friday-Saturday ride.
it seems one person can make Friday at the last minute (showing up that morning) and another person just got called into work
on Friday (the 16'th).
so what i was wondering is can everyone make the ride Saturday and Sunday (17'th-18'th).
if this is a problem for anyone we will keep it Friday and Saturday the dates scheduled.
if everyone is a little flexible like me, we can make it easier for a couple guys to be there for both days.
i want to hear from everyone about this before we change it. so please speak up or PM me and let me know how you feel
thanks
Either one works for me. I can work Friday and leave from work and get to Maine around 9:00 Or do them same on Thursday. Not taking a vacation day for me would be better, but not getting home Sunday night late and having to go to work Monday is rather inviting. Hell put it to a vote, seems the fairest way to me :good:.
At the risk of agreeing to something else and being labeled "easy", I am going to quit my job so I can make either date. Hope unemployment accepts that as reasonable cause. Definitely good to add a day for more participation. Traffic likely lighter on Thur for travel and Fri for riding, but I know "traffic" is a subjective term up here. A vote sounds right so no one feels left out. Has Bethel been agreed on over Saco?
Doug
i do not have reservations yet but i plan on being at bethel sometime on friday, camp friday night, ride saturday, camp sat night....
two nights around the campfire is good.
sunday start heading for home.... could be another group ride if group heading in the right direction...... i would also like to finish off the northern part of my travel map while im up there.
looking like i will be riding a couple thousand miles that weekend..... i think thats enough :good2:
Kookaloo!
hey guys, i have finally talked to nearly everyone here if not by phone than by PM
and after feeling everyone out a little bit the best decision for the rally is at pleasant view.
it seems the majority of you guys are happy to, or planning on staying in a tent.
which makes pleasant view the smartest choice for everyone, I would think that you guys could tent
right at the group site helping keep costs to a minimum. (unless you need power).
now, i know i talked to several of you and the consensus was we should discuss the pro's and con's
and vote. However the biggest con for pleasant view was lack of cabins. and since so many are tenting
it's not really an issue. which makes it the perfect place.
if someone disagrees with this decision PM me and let me know,if i get 2 people to PM me about the decision in the next couple days we will
then discuss the pros and cons a little more in detail and have a vote on saco KOA vs. pleasant view. if i don't hear anything then pleasant view it is.
i did get the feeling that everyone was okay with pleasant view and i don't think anyone will have a problem with the decision to stay there.
we will be waiting a couple of days before reserving the group site to give anyone or everyone a chance to post their opinion.
i believe the group site will be aprox. $7 a night per person, i don't know how many tents they allow us on that site but $7 would
be a heck of a deal. http://www.pleasantrivercampground.com/index.htm (http://www.pleasantrivercampground.com/index.htm)
here is the address for those who haven't checked it out.
and for the people who want there is a camper they rent a couple condo rooms and the motel close enough by, to accommodate the
riders who decide to come at the last minute. But they will have to make the phone call for their own reservations.
also it looks like everyone was happy to switch the ride to Saturday and Sunday, 17th and 18th. Most or all of us will be meeting Friday night
so i can say thank you to everyone for the couple guys this really helped out. They greatly appreciated the flexibility everyone has.
Frank is only going to be able to ride one day, Saturday, which works good because the first day is probably going to be the better ride.
Rumor has, Murray is planning on showing up a day early so if you wanted to stay an extra night (thursday) you may not be alone.
that's all for now, feel free to post your comments
thanks,
Travis

alright a couple of questions for everyone going to the northeast rally,
everyone is staying over Sunday night and driving home Monday? don't want to reserve the group site Sunday night if everyone is leaving after the ride.
i was assuming everyone is staying Sunday night, until Mark asked me and now i am second guessing my assumption.
and what are your thoughts for lunch, do you guys want to stop at a sandwich shop, pizza place, restaurant, steak house, Pub, or Fast food.
please no Thia food i hate that crap :negative:
If everything goes a planned, I'll be there Friday night and Saturday night--headed home Sunday night.
Mark
Ride over Friday, stay Fri and Saturday nights, head home Sunday afternoon possibly after a group ride. Lunch at restaurant or steak house, good place to sit and gab for a while. Might as well have some nice food to go with a great weekend. Other than the promised BBQ lobster.
Doug
anybody else?
If there are a few guys staying over I probably will as well. The thought of all day in the saddle and then 3.5 hrs of slab after dark lacks fun. After all one more night around the campfire lying about how fast we rode is always fun.
Travis, Thanks again for all the legwork.

Are we solidified enough on the plans to give Marsh what he needs to get us on the FJ Rally site?
:drinks: okay pencil me in, Sunday night. Can't let you guys drink without me.
I will be there as long as there are others to ride, lie, and drink beer with. looks like I will need a bigger trailer to bring enough beer though, Is there anyone else that needs stuff (beer, soda, food, etc.) brought to the camp ground please let me know.
Bob W
okay guys we have the place reserved for 3 nights Friday, Saturday, Sunday. :drinks:
if your staying in a tent than you don't have to make reservations, just show up :yahoo:
and it should only be $7 a night per person.
the catch is......... the Group (rally) site has a $70 minimum per night. with ten of us going that is only $7 a night each.
every person after ten (tenting on the group site) will also have to pay $7 a night also.
i should have specified, that in order for you to tent for $7 it has to be on the group site, which has no power.
if you choose to rent the camper that sleeps 3, stay at a site with power, a site for campers, rent one of the few condo rooms, or stay at the hotel, those places will be extra and you will have to call to reserve your own spot, and probably have to pay an additional $7 for the group site.
i believe all the prices have been posted in an earlier post by Mark,
thanks, Mark

actually i have to take this back i think RACER111V said he was coming, and i believe he is from N.H. also :pardon:
:greeting: hey guys.
i talked to the campground owners again yesterday and i guess there will be plenty of picnic tables set up under a large tent that we would be welcome to use.
i believe there will be picnic tables on our site too.
they have food prep areas also (although i didn't get the specifics of that) but that would cost some sort of a rental fee, or we could pay them more and they would
prepare the food for us.
so i know a few of you guys were volunteering and talking about bringing stuff for the feast, do we have that all worked out?
i have to be honest with you guys, you don't want me in charge of the food thing, i have been known to go a couple days with out eating.
and around here my wife is the expert of cooking, so pop tarts is the extent of my cooking abilities.
when we rode up to check out the campground we had lunch at the brewery, the food was good and the beer was better.
so that is an option if people forget to bring the BBQ Lobster.
i know we have plenty of time but we should be thinking about this before it is time. :drinks:
I can bring a propane grill to the campsite. My cooking abilities are limited to hot dogs and hamburgers. For a three course meal, I would add your choice of potato chips or Doritos. That said, I eat quite a bit. (wife very good cook) I'm not fussy, I can eat the same thing everyday, so what ever everyone wants is fine with me.
I was thinking breakfast (I don't care if it's just an egg-a muffin at a convienience store)on the road and lunch on the road. Barbque at the campsite at night? If we BBque at night, we'll have to find something that goes with beer. :rofl2:
I'll go along with anything--I'll eat a tankbag of snickers if I have to.
Anyone know what the usual FJ rally dining routine is?

well i think your three course meal sounds pretty good to me, burgers and hot dogs are obviously the quick easy thing.
finding a place for breakfast is probably a good idea, even if it is just breakfast sandwiches.
I'm not real big on breakfast so i could go with or with out. i was thinking we will be hitting the road at 9am
so it should give everyone time to catch a bite to eat before we leave.
we will be stopping for lunch, and it will not be fast food. i have to have my steak and potato's. :good:

we will be stopping for lunch, and it will not be fast food. i have to have my steak and potato's. :good:

That sounds good to me. Stopping between runs is definitely part of the fun.
That sounds good to me as well. How does one wake up so early without an alarm? :rofl2:
The big question is, will the bed spin in the morning like it did the night before :hang1:

And my D & D on the other side. I might even start mine up. :morning1:
That would do the trick! :shok:
did you guys see there was 5+ inches of snow in Bethel last week?
Nope, the 16" at my house Wednesday was enough, no need to go looking elsewhere. Rode the snowmachine this morning, took the bike out at noon! Love that "spring" weather.
maybe instead of bringing dirt bikes to the rally we can bring snowmobiles
We have over 3000 hits on this and only 11 people signed up, am I missing something?
Bob
Eleven people with way too much free time that keep checking to see what the other ten are up to. Maybe we needs a deal closer like a coveted Northeast FJ t-shirt only for rally attendees! Or the FJ bumper sticker... my FJ climbed Mt. Washington?
I'm going to try to make it to the rally. I won't know for sure 'til I pull out of thr driveway.
Glad to hear that Fred, the more the merrier.
Weymouth399 and carsick, -- these last two posts should increase the view count by 22
maybe we should put everyone's name in a hat (that shows up to the rally) and we draw a name. the winner will win a FJ :good:
Fred if you do come. (hopefully)
I think the best looking FJs red and white will out number all the other nice looking FJs :yahoo:
(that should start something)

Doug has all the good ideas, what do you guys think?
Thanks for the compliment Travis, I could use it today. Beautiful day, no riding due to my head being in the wrong place.
If only my actions could keep up with my ideas, I'd be golden. But it looks like you have set the ball in motion. Kudos!
1. Are the red votes going to outnumber the blue votes?
2. How much for a larger design on the other side?
3. White would last 15 min with me before I Pigpenned it. Black or blue options?
4. It's a gamble, Do you realize how cheap these FJ bastards are? I'm waiting for the thread on used fryer oil for your forks. (Please, soon, because I need to know if peanut oil is more viscosity stable than canola...)
Doug
1. i thought about what pic to use for that for a while, i knew i couldn't make everyone happy, :cray: i guess the 84' made the most sense because it is the original. even though no one (so far) coming to the rally has an 84'. trying not to play favorites.
2. what did you want to see on the back? anything/everything is possible. i was trying to keep us from looking like a walking billboard sign. so i kept it simple.
if we did the shirts after the rally we could put everyone's name on them.
3. yes i know about the white, i tried other colors but the detail of the bike got lost in the color, maybe there could be a white background behind the bike to make it stand out more.
4. i can't help you with the peanut oil question, but i have always had good luck with canola. Olive oil has a low flash point so didn't want to risk a fire. :negative:
actually my jaw hit the floor when i saw the price for 20 shirts, i was going to check a local place to see if it was any cheaper.
and yes i know if we weren't all so cheap we would all be driving new FJR's or R1's, instead of 20 year old bikes
sounds like your a little under the weather :empathy3: did you come down with a severe case of Moditis you know that can affect work life, home life, and personal life. and if you get it bad enough you will miss most of the riding season, including the rally.

i added text to the back, you may have to click rotate on the picture, what do you think?
looks nice!
we have a problem putting the fj picture on the shirt, one i guess it won't look very good but more importantly it would be very expensive.
this can be done for a reasonable price, Doug will be happy there is no red bike :good:
who's interested PM me your size.
also you guys will be happy to know when Bob and I was in Rangley one of the rally roads was 35 miles of Twisty's with great scenery.
PM sent
i put over 650 miles on my bike this weekend, had to go back to Rangley and snap a few pictures.
they may have come out a little better but our Canadian friends decided to start a big fire and smoke us out :flag_of_truce:

Beautiful Travis.
BTW, how's the pavement looking? Have any of our taxes gone to the D.O.T. in western Maine?
Now thats funny I don't care were ya from   :rofl2: :dash1: :dash2:
They get better when you cross the boarder into NH. But not any worst than the ride we went on a couple weeks ago
there is a couple mile section on RT. 17 just before the top of the mountain that is pretty rough and bumpy. :negative:
it might not be so bad if you go the speed limit though.
But there is plenty of places to drive like this  minus the wheelies of course.

Thanks for the 'pre-ride check' ride + report.
Well northeast FJers, the RALLY is less than a month away. :yahoo: If any of you need anything brought to the campground that can't be biked let me know. Travis and I plan on getting to the campground friday early.

I got a little camp wood --spruce--cut and split on Sunday. It's a start. I may be able to get about the same amount in slab wood.
I'm planning to trailer the bike, so the back of the truck (6'-8" minus the tool box) I can fill with wood.
I concede in advance to the fires at Boone.

Hey frank,
Are you coming to the NE Rally, do you want sync up and ride up some of the way together?
If you want to stay at my place on wed night you'd be welcome to.
I plan on leaving on thursday, and riding across the mountains.
Interested??
For now,
Nobby
I'm going to have to play it by Ear NOrbert..... right now it's hot as hades and my phone is ringing off the hook.... if it stays this way i may have to stay here in G'boro and work instead of riding up..... i hate it but Summer is my money time and i cant play without money..... :dash1:
I'll let you know after next week.
Frank
Just wanted to make sure you guys know that it costs $14 per bike to climb MT. Washington.
and only 2 people seem interested in T-shirts.
Travis,
Well, sign me up for 2 shirts then. I'll need a clean one for special occasions. And I think the $14 toll pales in comparison to the set of track day tires you will need for the mountain. I am freaking out about the stuff I need to get ready in the next 2 weeks( but in a good way)- anybody else?
Doug
We will be riding the mountains in two weeks :yahoo: The first NEFJ rally is almost here I hope all of you are getting ready. As I said before I'm bringing a enclosed trailer so if any body needs food, beer, gear, or what ever brought contact me. I can't wait lots of FJs in one place :i_am_so_happy:

Oh Ya I'm ready. Less than a week away till FJ funorama. Can't wait see you all then
Bob
i wonder if it is going to rain next weekend
Hush your mouth Travis. No, it will rain all week while I'm doing the last minute maintenance outside.
isn't there an unwritten rule that you don't work on your bike the week before the rally?
Whats your point?

He just doesn't want you to end up like this at the rally:
Ah, but you see to end up like that AT the rally I would have to get past that point so I could GET to the rally. No worries though, she runs fine. Just cosmetics and figuring out what to lug and how. Yeehaa- It's almost rally time!
Doug
I've been working on my ride steadily for the last three months to get ready.I almost feel comfortable riding it a few hundred miles from home now.I did spend a few hours making a rack to carry my tent and folding chair today.I'm going to pack it up and test ride it tomorrow.I think I have gotten the last of the rust out off the tank finally.I am hopeful that I have gotten the cleanliness and jetting spot on now.I have gotten very efficient at removing, cleaning, and reinstalling the rack of carbs.
I am looking at leaving work in Manchester at around 4 pm on Friday. That should get me into West Bethal safely by 8 pm.I mapped out a route that avoids most of the highways.Looks like about 25 miles on rt.16 will be the closest to highway driving.
Busy week coming up so I packed up for the rally today--I've got:
* Firewood (what was in the earlier post pic) an Axe, a hatchet and a 24" rim (fire ring)
* 4 folding canvas chairs
* A coffee pot----coffee, sugar, creamer & 14 'to-go' cups. I've got a tent site with water and electricity, so I can get coffee going in the morning for anyone and everyone. [I plan on grabbing breakfast somewhere before the ride but need my morning pot (of coffee) to get me there. ]
* 3 tarps and some 3/8" rope.
* 1 -- 8'x 10' screen tent - in case we need some cover for gear or whatever.
* chain lube, carb cleaner, spray cleaner/wax, dot 3 fluid, (couldn't find the dot 4) PB Blaster, Tri-flow lube.
* 2 clutch slave rebuild kits--
* a roll of duct tape, elec.tape and some rags
* 1 first aid kit that I'm going to carry in my saddle bag. I carry windex and paper towel in my bag as well so it looks like clean visors all around.
I have my medical information form filled out--2 copies in my right inside pocket of my riding jacket. (yup, that's a reminder to y'all.)
I can bring my mis-mash of tools--wrenches, sockets, etc.--and will--unless I hear that someone else that's also trucking to Bethel is bringing their tools.
I just got the Carb-ll syncronizer that I ordered in the mail on friday. I don't know anything about it except that it says Carb-ll on the package. I didn't dare to try figure it out as I didn't want to push the 1 week before the rally rule, but I will have it with me at the rally if anyone wants to use it.
'Probable to Attend': Glenn, it sounds like you're going to make it--good! Eric and Frank, hope to see you guys there too.
Let me know if there's anything else that I can bring.
Talk to you all soon,
Mark
Right. I'll bring the cheese.

probably why Bob is talking about taking someone else's trailer.
The rack is all set.I'm bringing it to work to glass bead it and paint.I rode it this mourning and the jet change did the trick.Steady state cruise is smooth as glass now.
I got a light clunk when i put it up on the centerstand today. After a quick investigation I found out it was the front wheel bearings. So now both wheels are bearingless and in the back of the car.Luckily there is a bearing supply store next to the shop.I had planned on pulling the wheels and give them a quick balance if time allowed. This just forced my hand.
I plan on tenting at the group site.Do I need to get in touch with the camp ground,or can i just show up and pay the fees?
We are having an open house at the shop the following weekend, and I will be there both days.It will be nice to relax around a fire, and cruise thru the mountains.

Hey Glenn, There is no need to contact the campground if you are going to stay at the group site. I've already paid for the Group site --$70 / night -- you can catch up with me there.
looks like the heat and humidity will be staying with us this weekend.
but the weather looks pretty good so far.
Hey,
I'm leaving from NYC tomorrow night to and staying in Troy NY, then on Friday up to Lake George and across VT & NH to Bethel. Anyone else taking a any part of this route and interested in teaming up?
For Now,
Nobby
Nobby,
I didn't have you down on the attendees list - tsk, tsk! I just added you. I wish I could join you guys - have fun out there!
Come on out Marsh. I'm sure we can find a FJ for you to ride out here.
Bob
I'll riding out Thursday after dinner, staying in Gananogue, then crossing into NY the next morning. Friday should be a nice 600km ride to the camp ground. See y'all there.
To all NEFJ rally attendees
Have a safe trip up and we will see you Friday or Saturday.
Bob
I also see the New England Forrest Rally (car pro-rally) is headquartered at Sunday River Resort about ten or fifteen miles from our campground. It is a Friday/Saturday event.I'm trying to get a good schedule of events for Saturday.Maybe we can see a stage or two late on Saturday. The afternoon stages look like they are maybe forty or so miles north of the campground.
so it is finally over, but we had a good time
does someone have this shot with Nobby?
