Title: 2017 West Coast Rally - June 1-3, 2017

We had a discussion at the WCR about next years rally. During that discussion it was brought up that next year, 2017 will mark the 15th anniversary for the West Coast Rally. Several locations were discussed and locations are being looked into.

This post is not about the locations, or anything else that has to do with the 2017 WCR; those posts will come later.

It is to see if there would be people who might attend as it is the 15th annual WCR. To find out if there might be some people who might make the trip based on the significance of the 15th anniversary.

I want to make sure we are looking at facilities large enough if there are people who would be attending that normally would not. We had several "regular" WCR attendees and several local guys to me here that did not make it this year, but we still had a total of 32.

If those regulars, plus the locals and a bunch of them Aussies & Canadians attend we could end up with 45 or more.

So, I guess I just want to start a head count for the 2017 WCR to make sure we select a location that can handle everyone for this momentous occasion.

I've decided that after missing out on the Ouray soiree, next year's WCR is my priority trip for Summer 2017. Any other trips are just gravy on the biscuits, as well as eggs and sausage links. :good2:

Might even ride up to Portland and ride back down with you, buddy boy!

Be great to have it up around Hayfork, the roads there are great.
Dunno about having it near Lake Tahoe, it's so slow getting around there with the local, tourist and RV traffic.
Hmmm.
The area between Quincy and Oroville has some of the best scenery and rides I've been on in California.
Plenty of campgrounds etc too.

Kick off the suggestions with somewhere in Plumas County.

Plumas County, Ca, has some of the finest roads and scenery in all of Northern California.
The Quincy-Oroville road (Also known as Bucks Lake road) in particular, and there's hundreds of miles of
very well maintained, deserted roads in the region that all link up quite seamlessly, no real "Slabbing it) sections yet plenty of fuel and food stops available.
Bucks Lake as really good cabin type resorts, CLICK ON THIS LINK (http://www.buckslakeshore.com/default.htm) they have indoor plumbing in the cabins, fully stocked bar,great restaurant with inexpensive, wholesome food,and a small store.

There's a lot of cabin resorts in the area, all good value.

The roads are phenomenal, the loop from Oroville to Quincy along the CA-162 E, Oroville-Quincy Hwy and Bucks Lake Rd then La Porte and back around to Bucks lake is tops.

This is a really good ride, definitely in the top 5 in Nthn California.
It's got it all, scenery, little to no traffic, really well maintained, well surveyed ,smooth, fast twisty roads.

I liked Hayfork... great setup regardless of roads or rivers in our case. Taking breakfast and dinner out of the equation along with the communal fire area was really perfect for meeting people and looking at bikes. Can we find another kid's camp where they are just getting ready for session and we can give them a light weekend warm up? I think the hayfork staff thought it was a great idea...

I really like the area up around Graeagle and the Trinity Alps, northern Sierra et al. Beautiful riding and the roads are all just a few years post resurface. Lots of nice loop rides of various lengths. Enough stops for food and cool little towns like Downieville to entertain. Nice temperatures beginning of June as well. There are lodges and such that would work too, but the $$ pile up fast on that route. I'm searching around up there and will ride it this summer for sure.

How many think ocean view rides are critical for WCR... we've skipped before, but some haven't shown up. Is riding along the coast critical for some? Any other critical criteria?

I'd just like to respond by saying, as a flat-lander making the long trip west, I do appreciate the ocean/coast riding and the view.
This would not be a deal breaker, but it does add a lot to the over all trip, for people like me that never have the chance to experience the coast on a regular basis.

I would love to do some riding in the Hayfork area.
It's not as close to the coast as Willits is, but there certainly could be some coastal riding involved from Hayfork.
Would love to see it in Northern CA, but wherever it is held, I'll show up! :good2:

Having never rode any of California before, anywhere the rally is held will be new to me. Northern California is more convenient, as it is closer. However, I'm up for anywhere there are good twisty roads. :good2:

It looks like we have platuead at 47.

For those in attendance at the 2016 WCR who were going to be researching possible locations, I would like to get them out by the end of this month.

Please post up why you recommend your choice of location. Sell it to the group. Once that happens we will have the decision to make to finalize the 2017 WCR.

Let's get those recommendations done by the end of the month.

If anyone else has an inclination of attending the 2107 rally, please add your name to the list.

Agreed, but I would not say a RV Resort is required. If we ended up at a location like Porterville (but cooler & outside the San Joaquin valley) we'd be fine skipping the RV part.

A far as location I think going back to Portorville may be best -- mainly because of the numbers we are looking at -- a hotel maybe best to accomodate the masses. I would choose a hotel / motel with a pool for the gathering afterwards.

I can only think of Portorville based on past experience but if there is another location that has a nice hotel/motel that would fit all it can work as well

as far as the numbers -- WOW -- it gets better every year!

That many old sweaty guys (myself included) after a long good ride, jumping in the pool to cool off. :bad: I did not miss the lack of a campfire, the pool worked equally as well. Better get my waxing scheduled just in case.

We are all open to being able to select the best location from a variety of locations for the 2017 WCR. I know there was quite a bit of conversation around the campfire on Saturday night. Out of that conversation there were several people who offered to research locations for the 2017 WCR based on it being the 15th anniversary event.

With that said, Klav has recommended Hayfork and you have recommended Porterville. Petaluma & Willits were again mentioned as possible locations. Placerville was the location of the very first FJ rally and I can't recall exactly who was checking on the Placerville KOA.

I have been doing me research and will have something ready to present next week.

If you have any thought of going to any of the aforementioned locations, hopefully you or someone is working on the details of having the event there. That way they can be presented and voted on for the best 2017 WCR location.

Well.. guess I'll toss my thoughts into the hat..

While I did not attend the first rally at Placerville, from what I'm told by someone who did, it was not a very good KOA. Located right next to Hwy 50 with constant traffic noise at all hours. That was a long time ago, so perhaps they have improved things a bit.

Hayfork was a nice location, but very remote. No one had cell service and the camp's internet and phone services were very limited. Again that might have changed since it was number of years ago. The town of Hayfork is about 40 minutes from the Bar 717 ranch. Hyampoon is closer but I do not remember if the town had anything in the way of fuel, beer, etc. Figure an hour to get from the ranch to Hwy 36 which is the main reason for being there. Weather was not cooperative, but the folks at the ranch said it was a total fluke. Being cut off from the world for a few days would be nice. Would put a sadistic grin on my face knowing people at work are trying to contact me in a panic, but I can't hear them. Muhahahahha!

I do not mind Petaluma, but as I said in another post I feel they are a rip off now and days given the cost of a basic cabin. At this point I imagine it would be doubtful to find a KOA to handle a group of this size. Cabin space is usually quite limited and not many people tent it or bring their own RV. From what I've seen over the years 25 or so is about the max for a KOA.

As long as the location is good and can handle the group without much drama, everyone will have a good time. Doesn't take a whole lot to entertain this group of people after a day of riding. :rofl:

Placerville is very close to my home and I'd run over and check that out, but I'm traveling a lot. I'll be back from Canada in a few weeks if it's still on the table.

I have voted for Hayfork for the 2016 WCR and now again for 2017. Epic roads for sure...and hey, it might not be raining! :good2:

I'd like to throw a location into the ring: Camp Richardson, in South Lake Tahoe. Take a look at their site, they offer a lot of what we need. It is probably a bit pricey, but it is
a prime location!

^^^ I've been in that area quite a bit for work and it is pricey, but very nice. Lot of good eats up in Heavenly Village, plenty of fuel options and casino's just up the road in Nevada if you're so inclined to visit.

I'd be leery of going there just because it's close to a "work" location and someone might want me to drop in and fix something they think is wrong..

I did research for possible locations for the 2017 WCR. Since this will be the 15th year, suggestions were made maybe we should go back to the original location, Placerville. I looked into the Placerville KOA and it does not have the amenities for our group, plus as already mentioned it is right along Highway 50.

I asked my wife Chandra to find some suitable locations in the area. We came up with a couple of them but quickly settled on Coloma Resort (http://colomaresort.com/) just a few miles north of Placerville in Coloma, Ca. (https://goo.gl/maps/yNPJiofq7s92)

As you can see it is on Highway 49 between Auburn & Placerville.

There were several reasons this location is our recommendation for the 2017 WCR.

1) The roads: Great Nor-Cal riding including; Ice House Road, Highway 49, north or south. You could even make it over to Monitor Pass.
2) Price
3) Ability to handle the size of our group
4) Catering
5) Other activities

Here is the Coloma Resort Facility Map (http://colomaresort.com/assets/pdf/2016_Coloma_Facility_Map.pdf)

Looking at the facility map, there is the Town Square. It is a large covered awning that will allow us to gather for the evening festivities.

The Town Square is bordered by eight bunkhouses. These have a bathroom and shower. The rate is $125.00 for five people and an additional $25.00 for each additional person. They say you can sleep up to 10, but they are twin bunk beds in the room. I would imagine sleeping on the bottom and having your gear on the top. They have heat and A/C as well.

There are also cabins available: Cabin Camping (http://colomaresort.com/accommodations/cabin-camping/). Some have half baths, a/c & heat, others just a ceiling fan.

For those who will be bringing an RV, we have spaces for that too: RV Sites (http://colomaresort.com/accommodations/rv-sites.html)

We were able to get the following areas blocked out until a decision is made. The reservation was based on the central location of the Town Square.

All of the Bunkhouses (http://colomaresort.com/accommodations/cabin-camping/bunkhouses.html)
All of Cabin Village (http://colomaresort.com/accommodations/cabin-camping/boomtowncabins.html). They all are listed as double occupancy. They can sleep up ten (10) for an additional $10.00 per person. Just like the bunkhouses, I cannot see ten adults sleeping in them.
All of the "Mt Murphy Cabins". (http://colomaresort.com/accommodations/cabin-camping/boomtowncabins.html) They are also double occupancy with an additional $10.00 per person. Again, I cannot see ten adults sleeping in them either.
South Fork Cabins #8 & 10 (http://colomaresort.com/accommodations/cabin-camping/southforkcabins.html). They are listed double occupancy with each additional guest $15.00 each. They sleep four to six people depending on the cabin. There are several more South Fork Cabins available but they were not willing to block them out at this point. They are numbers 53, 55, 62, 83, 88 & "J".

I honestly do not think we were able to block out enough cabins. At this point they were hesitant to block out anymore until we make a decision.

We reserved RV sites 49 & 50 which are river front, but do not have sewer hookup. Also 11 & 12 which have water, electric & sewer. Rates are $64.00 per night. See, facility map for locations. There is a dump station available on site as well.

Catering: They will feed us breakfast & dinner on Friday & Saturday. They have the facilities to handle all of us eating in one sitting. The menu & price still have to be worked out. At this point we did not get into full details because another WCR location might be selected. There is a catering menu & prices on the website, it does not apply to us. They advised those menus are designed for students and not adults.

There are also four or five places less than a mile to the north in a little town called Lotus. There is a Mexican restaurant, BBQ & Pizza Place, a cafe & deli.

Then you have Placerville which is about eight miles away or Auburn on the other end. These are medium sized cities with any service required.

There is a Chevron Station in Lotus as well.

Other activities (http://colomaresort.com/activities/) include White Water rafting, they have a rope/rock climbing course we can rent. There is Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=484) with museums and other activities.

I have attached a bunch of photos we took when we went there to check the place out.

The goal with this location is very similar to the 2015 Renegade Rally. The ability to have everyone in one central place, meals provided, great camaraderie and a multitude of additional activities.

Pop is at work so I don't know if he will have time to answer about the fire pit but I do believe when he was telling me about this facility that there currently is not a fire pit but they said they would likely be able to work with us for that accommodation. Will have to wait until he gets some spare time time confirm but I think that's what he said.

Me too, but for me it's the crowds. Getting into and out of S Lake is a bitch. I'm looking at an option up north of Tahoe called Two Rivers Soccer Camp. I think they're going to price us out of this due to a resort fee, but they'd be another Bar717 for those that did it only WAY BETTER. They provide hot breakfast daily along with dinner, all family style and we'd be together in the lodge. They have several gathering/fire-pit areas. The entire facility would be ours and it is big... they can handle 200+ people at once. This is just before their soccer camps start up, so staff is there prepping and training. They also have a great range of cabin and lodge accommodations, but sorry no RVs allowed. There are some other restrictions that make this one very unlikely to work out for us...

The location is spectacular however, so I'm trying to dig out more places like this up there. Klavdy (and others) can attest to the splendor of the riding up there and the bountiful roads are all about 2 years old right now. The best part is... ZERO traffic. I ride up there with Diane during the summer and "heavy" traffic is a car every couple of miles.

Look at Two Rivers here (http://www.tworiverssoccer.com (http://www.tworiverssoccer.com)), but 99% probability this won't work for us. Please do look for other kids camps kind of this like BAR717 and 2 rivers... that's pretty much the perfect setup for a rally.

Rather predictably, I've had no opportunity to research anything.
My initial thoughts leant toward Bar717 since, quite frankly, we got cheated out of the 3 and the 36 last time.
When Klav mentioned Plumas county, I remembered that to be the source of my only speeding ticket in my 11 years of riding in North Cal, so lovely as it is, that area will always be bitter for me.
Willits seems to trump Petaluma for everything, man o man that 20.
I failed to make the 2015 WCR round the foothills of Tahoe, so I'm ready to embrace Coloma.
Could be a solid gold location?

Yeah, we probably left that out. It is always the weekend following Memorial Day.

So, 2017 will be June 1-3.

Thanks Ed for the reminder. I actually spoke with them early this week and they have extended our block until the end of the November. I am hoping we get all of the bunk houses rented. If not we are going to have other people in the bunk houses that will not be with the group and will complain about the noise.

Another reason we need to get the reservations done, that is how I am going to be able to negotiate the catering cost for the group. The price is higher with less people...

I did not have them hold the gold hill cabins. They are the furthest away from the base camp area of the town square.

I just got off the phone with Sherry. Said said people have been calling to reserve their "portion" of a bunkhouse they are wanting to share with others. One person needs to rent the bunkhouse and the others sharing with that person need to pay the person that reserved it. They are not able to rent a single bunkhouse room to several different people.

Right now only two of the eight bunkhouses are rented according to them. If you have any questions of concerns, Please let me know and I will make sure it gets sorted. The bunkhouse is the best bang for the buck when divided by five people, and there is a bathroom in there too.

I hate to keep saying this, but the hold for our group expires on November 30th. I just got off the phone with the resort and there are a boat load of names on the list that do not have reservations.

As I stated in my last email, the bunkhouses are the best bang for the buck for guys sharing space just like they would at the KOA. But the bunkhouse has a bathroom so you do not have to leave your room in the middle of the night.

Please make your reservations as soon as possible to ensure we can keep our group together and not have to worry about people not affiliated with our group being in the mix complaining about noise.

I understand and I am going off of my experience of people sharing from the rallies I have attended. I will be sending out a reservation head count probably just prior to the closing date. That way I know who is where and were and try to negotiate keeping some of the blocked out units for those who can't commit to attending yet.

Are you going to be able to convince Bob to come out? We talked about it a little bit on the phone the other day.

Forgot to mention ---- in case it hasn't been mentioned. The bunkhouses ( while they look like motel rooms) they do not have linens. You need to bring linens and towels -- bedding etc. Now for those riding in they do offer linens - pillows - towels package for 25 dollars that you can " rent " for the duration.

If doing that please double check with the staff of the facilty prior to arrival and make sure they hold the stuff for you.

Cabins might be the same as far as the linens but when you book check with the staff obviously

If you are booked in and are bring non-members of the forum with you, can you please add their name to the list as well.

I will be using the reservation numbers for a couple of things. To make sure we get all of the bunkhouse rented so we do not have to worry about noise around people not associated with the group. I also need to best head count possible so I can get the catering sorted. Thus the reason I need the names of non-member as well if they are coming with you. The more the merrier.

We also only four more days until our hold/blocked out spaces go out to the public. If you can get your reservations completed that would be great.

As I have mentioned prior, the bunkhouses are the best bang for the buck. They will easily sleep five and have an indoor bathroom. There are two separate rooms as well. You get five people in a bunkhouse and the cost is $25.00 per person per night.

Okay, the deadline has past for our "unsecured" block that I was able to initally hold. I have gone ahead and personally secured the remaining bunkhouses for those who have not been able to solidify the plans yet. Those bunkhouses are available for those who have not yet reserved and/or have not been able to commit to attending. I know there are many people out there who cannot commit to attending until after the new year.

If interested in those accommodations, please let me know and I will get is sorted.

We have also started to work on some more details of the event. I should have most of the highlights available sometime in February.

I am currently working on raffle prizes. We are preparing a few classes for people to enter their FJ's into friendly competition. Things like; Show & Shine, Longest ride in traveled, most modified FJ, etc.

I plan to attend the West Coast Rally so add me to the list. I am trying to recruit others from the east coast and will be posting another thread offering transport services for them VIA my moving truck or 9 car auto transporter, (one of my businesses. I am located in Olive Branch Tn, a south east of Memphis Tn suburb, so Memphis Tn and have friends who also transport motorcycles and cars who may be able to help bring me your bikes for transport if you want to fly. I plan to arrive at the rally location Sunday night or Monday and leave on Sunday morning.

RCKMNFJ and I spoke many times as to his desire to attend and I had promised to attend with him. As such, I will, barring external influences, maybe I can bring the infernal DRUM, any thoughts?

I have a friend that lives in Pollock Pines, CA. Just east of Placerville on US 50. This happened overnight and is still snowing.

Yep, I was just in Truckee and woke to the same... about 18" up at the ski resorts and another 3.5 Feet coming by Th morning. The other thing about that snow in the pictures is it came down at about 23-25 degrees F... Colorado style powder is a bit rare in Tahoe, but that is it.

Looks like a great ski year on tap (yesterday was day 4 for me this year), so I'm hoping for a later June! I hope to get a many more good days in those kind of conditions, so really sucks to drive out of there today. We drove out through a strong storm with ~40mi of chain control. I really didn't want to go, but can't miss work this week...

This year's WCR is going to be spectacular and I can hardly wait myself... but I don't want to wish my winter away.

Okay, there are several who do not have accommodations at this point. In an effort to ensure we could keep the bunkhouse area to the FJ group only, I have reserved the four remaining units. When you guys are ready to make your accommodations, let me know and I can call them to release them to you guys.

We have been gathering items for a raffle and creating some friendly competition categories.

Longest rider to WCR

I am going to see maybe we can't have maybe a riding competition or two as well. There are a few other things being worked on as well to make this event even better.

I think it might be a pretty stiff competition...I have seen several very pretty FJ's at rallies over the years.

We might be able to do that by model, but then we might only have one per class...

Leon....Folks who travel the distance you travel to join our gathering IMHO should get a trailer pass.
It takes quite an effort on your part to join us and it is appreciated.
For me, getting on my bike and riding a measly 400 miles to the WCR pales in comparison to your efforts.

I fear the point is moot anyway.

On the way out to Calif. (from Kansas) Fred's going to do an Iron Butt Association, Bun Burner Gold, 1500 qualification run (1500 miles/24 hours) so he's going to end up winning 3 categories:
Show & Shine and Most Miles Traveled and Most Modified....and he will deserve it.

IMHO The only contender to snatch the Most Modified trophy away from Fred will be Chris's 198.2 mph FJ (hint) (hint)

Hell Pat, I'm not in this for recognition, I love you guys and I am honored to be included into the FJ fold.
Your FJ will always be the high water mark for the rest of us to strive to achieve.
(But this doesn't mean I'll be skipping the Simichrome wipe down, by any means)!
I've only rode to Wisconsin for a mini rally, but the major rallies will continue to be trailer trips for me.

And Fred, he's just crazy enough to pull this off.
He also, inspires many with his mods and updates, and I wish him all the best and a safe trip.

Yes Pat I thought I would have it done last year. But the builders around here are crazy busy. The one I wanted to build it has a year and a half waiting list. I didn't get the last bid until late September. I don't believe in winter builds in Wisconsin. Going Thursday to hopefully work out the details with the builder who was my second choice. If I ever get it done. Should have enough room for all the bikes in my shop 2268 sq ft. Anyone from the forum is welcome anytime. To stay over. Is only going to be 972sqft living space. But I will find the room. You guys have fun this year. Hopefully after I get this done. I can get back to the turbo bike and give Fred and Chris a run on most moditis

I'm 64 years old now, how many years left will I have the stamina for riding back to back 600 mile days?
400 mile days?

Some of the most exciting times I've had in my life is the ride to the rally. The anticipation. I have waited all year for the event. The early morning departure. The purple/blue/orange sun rise over the desert. My bike singing to me because she is happy. I am happy. I am ALIVE.

There will come a time when I will have to trailer my bike to the rally......Not this year.....

There will come a time (5/10/15 years?) when I can not safely ride anymore... A point of my life I don't want to think about (but I do)

That will be the time when my lovely '84 undergoes her last mod. and becomes a trike.

I kinda envy you Pat. I've ridden my Fjs to and from OKC 907miles one way in 14ish hrs 6 different times. Enjoyed the journey immensely. Even the times I had to ride more than 5 hours in severe downpours. (Always pushed the most of time away from work with the family) and still Love 3-400 miles rides with Friend's. Very much worth any pain I have to ignore. (All the damage I've done living a wonderful life.37 broken bones, 21 surgeries, 42 pieces of metal in me, and over 4ft of surgical scars.) I unfortunately have decided to be trailer trash. For the longer trips to and from, the good stuff. Keep having fun Pat and all the rest of you tough guys. I do envy you.

Sorry Dan, no, it was an attempt at a humorous reply to Pat's trailer queen comment. I agree, I've never met anyone on an FJ that I didn't get along with.

I trailered to the 2016 East Coast rallies because Andrew's bike was down for maintenance; the engine was in his bedroom getting fixed. I sorely missed the ride up and back, which is usually my favorite riding of any rally.

But Andrew's 916 was apart for repair with its engine in his bedroom, so I had a miserable drive trying not to kill the torque converter in a 270,000 mile Maxima. But I was glad I had both bikes in Boone. Andrew and I got one decent run with Stu out to Shady Valley and back, and I got to work both bikes hard enough to have fun. (Andrew on the FJ was so far ahead of me and Stu on the Italian stallions that my only indication he was still ahead of us, and not crashed off the mountain somewhere while we rode by, was the lingering cloud of burnt oil the FJ left hanging in the air.)

I trailered the 998 to Barber Motorsports Park and did an embarrassing track day. Had a blast, but I was glad to have trailered it there and then all week to the office nearby.

I actually rode the 998 up to Bryson City for the weekend before the East Coast Fall Rally, and I realized I love that thing even more with a sport-touring amount of clothes and crap strapped to it than I do without. I was riding a freakin' DUCATI. On a ROAD TRIP. YEAH!! And Bryson City is only 3 hours from my house, an hour of local slab and then 2-1/2 hours of sportbike heaven. I rode it back home mid-week to take care of some new-job stuff, and then trailered it back up to the rally along with the FJ so that Andrew and I could both ride; his 916 was still not all back together. We did some riding on the Cherohala with Randy, so again, totally worth it.

I will probably not be riding to Willits, or to Ouray. But if I go, riding the FJ is probably the easiest way I have of getting the FJ somewhere 1,000 miles away.

Hey Frank, I knew there must be a skier among us FJ owners. I've been anxious to ask you about the similarities between going down "The Little Dragon" and Heavenly's "Gun Barrel". Just ordered a pair of Elan Amphibio's. Maybe someday we could meet up someplace and see if you ski as fast as you ride. :good:

I can't be the only one... Skiing is another "carving" sport in my opinion and has lots of similarities to motorcycling (skateboarding, roller blading, bicycling, etc). I view the whole thing as moving your body through space with a different interface to the ground (it's common knowledge I'm strange).

Saturday was #7 ski day for me this year and we're likely heading up Friday. PM if you'd like to ski together...

There is no end date to attend. We have guys arrive who are not even on the list almost every year. I still have some bunk houses available.

As far as the ride up, check with some of the other so cal guys and see if you can ride with them. It makes the trip easier when you have company.

All this talk about about trailering to the event --- normally I ride as well as that is part of the adventure but this year maybe my first to trailer. Not due to last years chain disaster but I am going to bring a dual sport .....................wait for it.

..... my waverunner. Its still in the planning stages but hope to come early and take in Folsom Lake. Jetski trailer has been modified to hold both but not tested ( would hate for it to fall over into the ski or road. )

And like all --- can't wait ---- epic I believe has been said.

Well, we are already into February 2017, only sixteen weeks to go and it is 2017 WCR time.

We currently stand at about 45 confirmed and 55 with the undecided.
Cutter Bill are you still skipping the WCR?

I still have three bunkhouses available for those planning on attending who have not made reservations yet. If you need one of these bunkhouses, contact me and not the resort I paid for them so we can ensure we don't have anyone from outside the group in our general area. It would be nice to get these bunkhouses filled.

I know there were several Canadians waiting until after the first of the year to decide too.

I have split up the list to confirmed and undecided.

If you have any thought of attending, please add your name to the either list. I am going to start working on the catering with the resort and a solid head count is very important. I don't want to get food for 45 when we might have 55...

If you are attending, we are going to have a great time. Great friendships, great roads, great location and...

As I have already mentioned, we will have some friendly competition in a few areas. Show & shine, most modified FJ, longest ride (on the FJ) the the WCR, and street fighter. If there are any other contests you would like to see, please let me know. The winners of each, except for longest ride, will be voted on by the attendees on Saturday with awards being presented Saturday night. I am also setting up some great stuff for a raffle on Saturday night.

I know Capn' Ron started working on some ride routes last fall and once winter lets up we will start riding some more routes.

The 15th annual WCR is going to be epic. I have things planned that we have never experienced before and hopefully we can do for many years to come.

Come on you east coast guys, this will be the one not to miss. There are two options to get your bikes out here; FJ not required:

Don't know the exact route yet.....For me, slabbing up I-5 is like eating broken glass.

I can join the party in bunkhouse 2. I see its currently crewed by Steve and aviation Fred, two sterling fellows. More bummed about monkey mark not making it, he's kind of a fixture.
As I mentioned before, I'll be bringing a tent, so if Marks woes clear up he can always reclaim his spot.

I am going to start working on the catering portion of the event and want to ensure I have enough food for everyone. I am going to take into account a few people might show up unannounced as well.

Come on you big girls blouse, l remember when I broke my leg and both arms and was at a Saxon concert the evening they discharged me from hospital. I even got let in early to see the sound check after a roadie took pity on me as I stood in line. Good times.

Shit Ed, from a sprain last June to surgery...What was the required surgery?

Spring is springing out here in the west. We will soon be getting out for some recon rides.

Working on the catering now for the event.

We have also been working on the awards for the various friendly competitions we will be having.

The raffle is shaping up well too.

Bring your video cameras to record your rides. I am planning on having a A/V station set up so videos can be playing on the big screen during the evenings too.

It turned out that I had one of those 'bad sprains' that are 'worse than a break' that everyone hears about. All 3 of the lateral ligaments are loose from repeated sprains. This time I also tore 2 tendons that rotate the foot right<>left. The doc also decided to try to put an end to the sprains by adjusting the position of my heel bone

My doc was INSISTANT that I keep all the weight off it for at least 8 weeks to allow the bone & tendon to heal, and from how it feels, I understand why! I asked about when I could ride, after I deflected the 'don't ever ride' bs, she said probably 12 weeks-maybe a bit sooner. That still leaves me at least 3-4 weeks after the rally.
So, I'm done guys-at least for now. This IS sucking, I haven't ridden since the Renegade Rally last fall, so I'm more than ready. It's just that the body isn't willing to do what the mind wants.

We have not yet met, however I wish to weigh in. I did the Central Rally with Ear, Sinus and upper/lower jaw infection to keep a promise of attending it with RcktmnFJ. As we know, he made it and we rode very few miles, but the crew from the group made it worth every painful mile for both of us. Randy then made the Fall Rally and a week after with me in Memphis plus riding his FJ the week before his passing. Side note, I did that fall rally in the Porsche, someone borrowed my pickup truck 2 months earlier and still have it six months later.

My point, worst case, use it as a healing vacation and like Pat and others have said, drive a car and enjoy down time with a friend or two, if you decide to ride the mile to the dinner to say you rode, I should have a spare bike or two to lend.

We are hanging right around the 50 count. I hope both Mark and Ed have a change of thought and will join us. That is why I am leaving their names on the list...(hint hint)

I am currently getting the catering sorted and want to make sure I have enough for everyone. The plan is the have the resort serve breakfast and dinner on both Friday and Saturday. I have to have a minimum of 30 for them to cater. We far surpass that, but I have to pay per person I advise are eating.

The raffle is coming along nicely, although I am still searching for some more items. The awards for the competitions are in the works and as the spring weather has come into play, ride routes will start getting finalized.

I have a couple special things planned as well that hopefully everyone will enjoy.

I still have it.. needs quite a bit of work/restoration so I parked it and bought another bike in the meantime. I'll knuckle down one of these winters and tear it all apart..

The FZ1 is a nice bike, but a bit scary.. it's so smooth you really have no idea how fast you are going.. until you start cursing drivers for going to slow... then glance down at the speedo.. and see you're doing 100+... Thankfully no performance awards yet..

In preparation for the 2017 WCR, (Kevin) ND Beeman and I headed out for a recon ride. It was a beautiful day for a ride, sunny and mid 60's. It was nice to see stream that have not had water flow in all of the years of drought flowing. There was water running out of the side of the mountains.

There were a few seepers from a couple of roads and still a couple of roads that had small streams running across.

We rode about 200 miles from the RPM shop up north to be able to put together some good ride routes. I can tell you we ended up on a road that we will not be riding, but did find some greast roads. There are several other route that have been already sorted.

Look forward in the next month several of the ride routes being posted.

There is "still room at the inn". I have I believe two bunk house remaining for rent.

Preparations continue, I hope anyone that can attend will be able to make it.

I have been on and off about going the WCR this year and have finally relented sadly that I will not be able to attend. A case of having to many irons in the fire and a schedule conflict impacting me during that time frame. I have tried to move things around and fit it in but it is time to take a few things off the plate for my own sanity. Even as I sit here typing this I am thinking "maybe there is a chance if". Having a hard time getting out of denial I guess.

I will be looking forward to pictures and write ups of the rally. Please everyone ride safe. You don't have to be the fastest through life.

On a positive note after the FJ sitting for 7 months I rolled her out, put the battery in and she fired up on the second stab ! A little stumbly at first but she trimmed in to a good idle and ran good for a quick trip around the subdivision. Now to get her registered for the summer.

Well.. the FZ is up and running.. all fluids changed, fixed my heated grips, chain cleaned and lubed.. even rode it to work today. Now I need to prep Chris's bike for the trip.

Not sure if it's worth riding around here anymore. Less than a 10 mile ride to work, and had two people messing with their cell phones cross the center line and almost have a head on with me. Yeah.. thanks...

Hi all,

The WCR is soon to be upon us and I know this will be another great one! :yahoo:

While the weather kept me from riding a lot of this past winter, I kept busy on my 3D printer. I wanted to make up something for everyone at the rally that had universal Yamaha appeal, so I came up with these two keychains:

On the first keychain, I was going for the same look and feel of the Yamaha blue tee shirt with the white lettering.

It took ordering several spools of "blue" PLA filament to get a close match to Pantone 287C (Yamaha Blue), but I think I nailed it! After sizing both versions to be the same length as an FJ ignition key, I set off to printing a slew of them:

They are absolutely, totally free for the asking as that was my intention... If anyone wants to donate a couple of dollars for their key chain, I will donate any and all proceeds to the effort to keep this awesome forum running! Thanks and I'll see you all in Coloma! :hi:

Capn', your not only a legend but a generous one at that! Is there no end to your skills, they look fantastic.

These will no doubt be treasured by the recipients, a run of only 60 is a very exclusive club, only 5 times more people have walked on the moon.

I will miss all the great ladies and gentlemen in Coloma this June. Anyone who is undecided would be a fool to miss it. My bike is in Vegas now, getting covered in glitter and cheap perfume, while handing out dollar bills to girls onstage to help further their college education.
Once she makes it to South Carolina, My bride and I will report from the Fall Rally here on the East Coast. :drinks:

I will not be attending the WCR. It came down to having to choose between Ouray or WCR, and I will be attending the rally in Ouray. I know I will be missing out, but I look forward to seeing everyone that will be at the CO rally.

So there is a rumor circulation around here in So. Cal, about a bunch of old guys getting together and riding there old Yamaha biks around Norther California at the end of the month!

Shoot... I'm old and my brother is even older and we both have old Yamaha's, I like to put my name in the hat.

Well, we are getting down to the brass tacks, the 15th annual WCR rally is now less than three weeks away...With that said, I must have the RSVP numbers into the caterer by May 18th.

After a couple of years of hosting the Renegade Rally where we all stayed at the same location, ate around the same table and swapped stories, that was the goal for this years WCR. The fragmentation of the group as a whole by people going here & there for meals does not lend itself to the great camaraderie we could be experiencing at the WCR.

With that in mind we selected Hog Wild BBQ out of Placerville to cater the event for Friday and Saturday nights. Everything is prepared fresh daily, only enough for each day; No left overs from the day before; http://hogwildbar-b-que.com/ (http://hogwildbar-b-que.com/)

Smoked Beef Brisket & Smoked Pulled Pork

Chopped Cole Slaw
Corn Bread & Dinner Rolls
Iced Tea, Lemonade and water

Saturday:
Smoked Chicken Breast & Smoked Baby Back Ribs
Mashed Potatoes with Gravy
Fresh Sauteed Green Beans
Homemade Macaroni & Cheese
Corn Bread & Dinner Rolls
Iced Tea, Lemonade and water

The cost for dinner each night is $25.00 per person (based on the forty person head count I currently have, if that decreases the cost rises)

Breakfast Friday and Saturday

The breakfast menu will be basically the same both days.

An assortment of pastries and muffins.
Petite Cinnamon Rolls
Croissants
Fruit
Coffee, orange and apple juice

The cost of breakfast is $6.00 per person per day.

I need a RSVP for breakfast as well so I can ensure the proper amount of food.

This will be a epic gathering for FJ Owners, to celebrate the 15th annual WCR by returning back to the Placerville area where the inaugural event was held. This event will have great FJ's, great people, great roads & rides, great facility, great meals, great contests, great raffle... But best of all GREAT MEMORIES.

I still have two reserved bunkhouses available if anyone still has a thought of attending.

Well, we are officially two weeks away from the WCR.

All of the final details are being worked out as I type this.

We are going to have a great time. The raffle is coming together well, the awards for the friendly competitions are coming along nicely.

I hope to get out a couple of times in the next couple of weeks to get in some final recon rides. Then we can get routes sent out to everyone by the 27/28.

There is still plenty of time to join in the festivities. There are bunkhouses still available and the caterer said she can add a couple more if needed without issue now that she has the majority of the RSVP.

I hope you guys are shining up your bikes, getting ready to submit for the longest ride into the rally and making those final modification for the most modified bike.

We will have one more surprise contest that I hope everyone with an FJ will participate in, it is going to be fun.

Don't forget, you need to bring in your own bedding unless you have secured bedding with the resort.

If there are any questions, post them here, send me a PM or email.

If you are bunking with Steve then ear plugs are also recommended standard gear... And to be fair, also required if bunking with me, for future reference. My family issues seem less dramatic but work is wonderfully over loaded. I can confirm my worst fear of missing this WCR. Feel free to keep me on the "Hopeful" list. I won't reject a last minute opportunity.

Two geezers made in the fifties. Two bike made in the eighties. 5,000 Kms. What could go wrong? We are on way. Calgary- Kalispel - Grangeville - Snake River Canyon - Baker City - Alturas - Coloma...or something like that depending on roads and weather.

Guys, don't forget to bring you Go-Pro or similar type cameras. With the assistance of Mr bean we are going to have the ability of setting up a computer & projector to play videos from your memory cards for evening viewing.

The only hold and fast time set for anything is dinner is served at 7:00pm Friday and Saturday nights.

We will probably have breakfast out and coffee made by 7:00am.

The leave times for riding are dependent on how far you are planning on riding that day. The ride routes are still not fully solidified at this time.

Competitions & Raffle will be Saturday night.

Just a reminder, bedding is not provided.

And finally, this is a BYOB (bring your own booze) event.

I won't be attending Ouray this year. I'm taking a month off and then heading out on what looks like a 12,000 miler starting in July.

That looks really nice!

So glad the forecast cooled off a bit for our ride down. We will have mostly cloudy and in the 70's for most of the ride tomorrow. Way better than the 90+ they were predicting the further south we got.

People are already freaking out that I'm going to be out of the office for a number of days in a row... sorry.. I've got 5 weeks of vacation time in the bank.. need to use some of it..
