Post by: aviationfred on June 12, 2016, 11:39:16 PM
Made it into Wichita, the bike ran like a charm, no issues.

Cap'n Ron, Leon, Cory, and myself made it safely back to my house in Denver.

Leon and Cory left out early this morning to head east to Iowa. The Cap'n is staying at my place until Sunday.

Safe travels everyone.

Kai also sent me a message that he arrived home safe.

Donna and I spent an extra night in Ouray to rest up after the rally. We have almost a week to get home, so will be taking the scenic route. Hoping to spend a couple nights in the Kootenays to get a little riding in.

Made it home today around 7:30 CST. Got waylaid in Valentine NE last night by heavy thunderstorms. Half of the 550 miles to home from there, was filled with strong winds, then heavy rain and strong winds. FJ, shrugged it all off. Not so sure about its rider.

Had a great time in Colorado seeing it, and riding it, and a lot of fun at the Rally too.

Thanks to all who helped me, and who made the Rally a success too.  :good2:

Movenon, did you make it to Ouray for an FJ rally this year?

Arrived home yesterday, noon'ish. Took the long way home from Ouray. Paul and Jason are also home safe.
Crossed the desert in the cool morning hours.
The FJ weather gods were smiling on us the whole trip. It seemed that wherever we went we just missed the rain.

Great riding, great times, great friends! A shout out to Randy T who visited both rallies, a special guy.

Heal well Mike. Thanks folks for the great time!

Pat

I couldn't make it this year.  To much going on here at home.  My mother in law passed away and then two extended family members passed away in non related events.  I needed to be home with my wife and family.  The mother in law was a key stone of our family.  She was a war bride from Italy with a lot of family history here.  A long story of triumph over language barrier and poverty.  She learned English by immersion, raised 6 children, became a US citizen and helped others to over come adversities through her church and work.  She only had the equivalent of 6th or 7th grade education due to the war, as a teenager lived under Nazi occupation and the horrors of war.  If your teen age memories were of picking up a cousin hit by a bullet from an aircraft strafing run and putting them into a wheel barrow trying in vane to find a doctor or help. The cousin died in the wheel barrow, or searching for food in the garbage of war.  That was her starting point.  I get mad when I here people here in America complain about how unfair and tough it is.....  Sorry I got off track.  So was an example of what you can do and be in life.  She was not rich in money but very rich in family.

I missed the rally's but enjoyed following in the forum and on Facebook. Talked to Kurt this afternoon on the phone and got caught up on the events and back stories.  Hoping to get a few short trips in later this summer.  I need some slab time to clear my head and find a smile.

Thanks for checking.
George

Sorry to hear about your family George.  :empathy2:

If you want to head this way later in the summer, I'll plan on some riding with you.

We made it home tonight. Had a great time at the rally and our slow, windy journey home. About 6500 km with the car and trailer, about 1200 km on the bikes.
It was great to see our old friends and some new ones too! Can't wait until the next rally!

So I am over a week late but still getting caught up.

Made it back from the rally- over 6,500 miles for the trip. Not bad for a first Real motorcycle road trip!

I left Ouray about noon and arrived in my driveway 24.5 hours and 1,367 miles later. Breakfast at the FJ rally and then lunch with my family - what a ride home!  :wacko3:

Full report and video to come. Thank you again to everyone!  Look forward to future rallies!

If that's not a typo, that is truly amazing, well done seems a bit weak for such a monumental effort. I imagine any photos you took en route will be blurry.

That is certainly covering some distance. Well done!
It was great to meet you Isaac, and your Dad. I'm glad you guys could come.
Hope to see you at the next one.  :good:

Nope, not a typo. Why not, I figured. It is not every day I find myself far from home, on a capable mororcycle, and open roads before me. I think I found my limit though, could maybe fit in a few hundred more miles but it would all have to be slab- and that is not as much fun as it could be. I went North through Rifle and Craig. Then to Spearfish to split storm cells and straight home. Long distance riding is new to me but I am sure many of you can attest- after a while my body, mind and bike became one. I really didn't have to think about doing- all three just did. It was almost an out of body experience. I felt like a bird flying low to the ground. Seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling- all that was around me and yet focused on where I wanted to go.

I didn't get too many pictures on the way home- essentially only stopped for gas and food. But here is one of the sunrise, after riding through the night watching lightening explode across my entire view of the horizon like the Fourth of July. I got lucky, had a good radar app and found a break in the cells. Sneaking through, hoping the storms would not notice I found a gap in their line. The sunrise was a welcomed sight and warranted a quick stop, photo and go. But 450 miles still lay before me and the sun was now my guide.

Yes, well done Isaac, you and your pop are a welcome addition to our clan.

Paul, Jason and I put on 4200 miles on this tour.
This was visiting the WCR and Central Rally then the long way home.
12 days riding in all, put the average daily mileage at 350. Some days were short days, 200 miles, some days were long days 500+ miles (ugh) but 350 for the 12 day average was a fair amount of travel (for this old guy)

Thank you Alan for all your work on making the Colorado Rally so much fun. What a beautiful state.

Wow, that is some achievement. It's a great testament to your physical and mental stamina, I'm impressed. Being partial to the odd big day myself (about half that) your effort is way out there.
Next time take photos. I have spent half a century trying to master the various disciplines of motorcycling, the most difficult has been ....stopping, or more often than not, going back to get the photo.
Always take the photo!

I hope it has whet you appetite for more - there is nothing like a road trip on a bike but make sure you give yourself time to enjoy it along the way, it multiplies the memories many times over (especially if you have photos!

Pat, I'm sorry I didn't get to see your bike fully loaded down Beverly Hillbillies style.
It was a quick turn-around for me, with catching the last day of the rally and so worth it. What an amazingly beautiful area and I had such a blast riding with everyone. Much thanks to Kurt for helping me with some last minute maintenance to make the trip possible.
It was a little disappointing to see 1tinindian's bike with some dirt on it, I have admired his bike on forum pics many times.
Thanks to Dave and Fred for greeting me when I rolled in at about 4am on Saturday morning.
It was great to see everyone I met at last year's WCR and also great to meet new folks. I echo Pat's thanks to Alan, and Derek and Donna are some pretty cool Canadians.

Glad you made it. Next year is the 15th anniversary for the WCR. Start planning now.
