Title: The South Eastern Ontario Camp & Ride '16
Post by: paulfj03 on May 31, 2016, 09:29:42 PM
The FJ Camp & Ride is on again this year and is scheduled for sept 9, 10 and 11th. That is the weekend after the Labourday Weekend.

‎Home base will be Loughborough Lake Holiday Park again, off of Sydenham Rd, just North of Kingston.

To any FJowners members  looking forward to meeting and getting to know some of the FJ owners in Ontario, doing some awesome camping, and riding some of the most popular roads in Ontario
... you should 'pipe up' and join us. The price is right,... the time spent could be just a weekend , or even a days ride. There is usually alot of 'all-things-FJ', and campfire BS & Banter.   :drinks:

Last year's event had excellent riding through the ‎Highlands roads. Good times!!

Danno is presently staying at the lake and doesnt have his computer out there. ... who can blame him?
Here is his description from last year:
This park is very laid back and east going, washrooms, showers, beach.
There are group sites available for rental for us where renters can be louder into the wee hours,  if they want.  There are cabins for rental  based on availability.  Tent sites are there too if thats your preference. Also on site is a chip truck that makes breakfast and dinner on weekends.
If the weather turns to rain there is a large shelter for us to hang out in to stay dry ... as long as it is not rented for the weekend.

The Park is 10-15 mins from Desert Lake Road, then Westport Rd, and then from Westport the riding goes up through the highlands. Very cool!!!

Danno is opening up his doors again and is saving up the best possible riding and campfire weather for us to enjoy.

See you there! :good2: :drinks:

I look to be in the clear for that weekend. Figure out the details later but I'm sure I'll want a roof over my head at night, but I can sleep on just about anything, anywhere.
Title: Re: The South Eastern Ontario Camp & Ride '16 **NEW DATE**
Post by: paulfj03 on June 04, 2016, 11:37:07 AM
Hold the phone!  :shout:

Due to recent developments the date has been moved to the 24th of September (23rd, 24th, 25th)
Alot is happening this fall, so picking a date has been fun..... but we are solid now. Good to hear that this new date works just as well for you charlie. (phew. ).

The fall colours should be at their brightest up there at that time, and  it probably wont be too hot for the day tours.   Awesome.  :drinks:

I am looking into cabin availability too.

Well......  ok.  I'll book the time off this week.  Come Sept I'll get the usual "Whaddya mean you booked it off? When?!"  That's when I point at the piece of paper on the wall above the desk and say "4 months ago", and watch them squirm to find coverage.    :sarcastic:

Excellent! Looks like we have 6 riders already.

According to Del, the fella in charge of rentals and prices says, for now, there are two cabins open for the weekend then.  The cost is $395 for the weekend which is check in Friday and check out Monday morning . They could sleep up to 4. The cabin we stayed in last year was quite nice. The tent sites are $25 and serviced trailer sites are $45. If we get 6 or more riders interested in tenting we could rent the group site which would be $12 ea. Per night.

I'm partial to sleeping under a roof too. Please holler if your ready to go in on a cabin. I'll book one if need be...

I'd be willing to go in on a cabin.  I'm also easy about tenting it too.  Could do with practicing my survival craft:

Step 1) Pitch tent - Step 2) Open beer - Step 3) repeat Schtepp Tooh hash neschesherry   :drinks:  :yahoo:  :bad:   :pardon:

Since I'm taking time off for it I will also be off the Monday, so I don't really have to leave until then.   (popcorn)

What time of day on Friday will you be at the camp ground? I get home from work at 8 a.m. Friday so I'm keeping the option open to head out there soon after, then catch sleep at the camp, or sleep 4+ hours then head out after lunch.
I'm going to take Hwy 7 until I'm well east of Peterborough to stay off the 401 as much as possible. It should be a nice ride up there, like usual.

My 2c worth - stay on #7 til #37 then start scooting down to the campsite.  If you're willing to slab it 1/2 the way on the 407 to Harmony Rd that will cut down the traffic and gain you some time - and cost you probably $30 - $40 (?) in tolls.  407 - Harmony - #7 (https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Stoney+Creek,+Hamilton,+ON/Loughborough+Lake+Holiday+Park+Campground,+3060+Sydenham+Rd,+Elginburg,+ON+K0H+1M0/@43.9697713,-79.3488436,9z/data=!4m29!4m28!1m20!1m1!1s0x882c9887eb98cea3:0x2665b08690bb3d44!2m2!1d-79.7195586!2d43.2272182!3m4!1m2!1d-77.8728524!2d44.4336253!3s0x4cd3560c85678509:0xba663f2184ab7cbe!3m4!1m2!1d-77.1684437!2d44.4572228!3s0x4cd32651188c7521:0xe2e0fe6fcf796634!3m4!1m2!1d-76.8895152!2d44.3902159!3s0x4cd2c580facda655:0xe58b53da8cfb90a3!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cd2aff18234c985:0x13deb5810d9ed7c5!2m2!1d-76.560833!2d44.3471124!3e0).  Or take 407 - 404 - Bloomington Rd - #7A (https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Stoney+Creek,+Hamilton,+ON/Loughborough+Lake+Holiday+Park+Campground,+3060+Sydenham+Rd,+Elginburg,+ON+K0H+1M0/@43.9612461,-79.5445376,9z/data=!4m34!4m33!1m25!1m1!1s0x882c9887eb98cea3:0x2665b08690bb3d44!2m2!1d-79.7195586!2d43.2272182!3m4!1m2!1d-79.211107!2d44.028907!3s0x89d52feef7becc81:0xb4801eab77dd4bdd!3m4!1m2!1d-77.8728524!2d44.4336253!3s0x4cd3560c85678509:0xba663f2184ab7cbe!3m4!1m2!1d-77.1684437!2d44.4572228!3s0x4cd32651188c7521:0xe2e0fe6fcf796634!3m4!1m2!1d-76.8895152!2d44.3902159!3s0x4cd2c580facda655:0xe58b53da8cfb90a3!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cd2aff18234c985:0x13deb5810d9ed7c5!2m2!1d-76.560833!2d44.3471124!3e0).  I'm suggesting the 407 only to avoid the inevitable disasters that occur on the QEW/401.  Unless you're willing to bypass all 400 series hwys then I'll just shut up...

I may head down Thurs night or Fri morning.  I'll know by mid week.  If Fri maybe we could hook up on the way.

Hey Charlie,
I have Friday booked off and should be out there most of the day, might have some last minute running around to, but come on out straight after work if you want, we'll tuck you in for a nap when you get there.  I'll PM you my cell # so you can text me your ETA...

So that 's settled.  I'll head up Fri morning also.  If you want to meet up on the way Charlie give me a PM also.  :good:  Or if anyone else is, maybe we could get a convoy going.

Thanks Dan. I got the PM, putting in my contacts.

407 can go bite me - I thought it would be a good idea when going to Rice Lake two years ago which would put me in the same segment east of Toronto. The drivers are just as homicidal as on any other 400 class highway. One guy, I probably could have jumped off my bike à la Fast & Furious and danced on the roof of his SUV then jumped back on my bike and kicked in his door; he wouldn't have noticed.

When I went out to Cape Breton in July I used Hwy 7 all the way to Ottawa because i was making such good progress and with zero stress and nice scenery.

PaulG, look for a PM about the FJ seats you picked up.

OK, got to get some sleep after 3 nights on my feet for 12 hours each, because at 2 p.m. I have a dental appointment. Living the dream.  :negative:
