Title: Hello everyone new fj owner Kent Oh.
Post by: bbergma4 on May 28, 2016, 08:35:49 PM
Hi  I was recently looking for a new bike after selling my 1987 FZ 750, and have always been interested in classic Yamahas. Upon browsing the Columbus craigslist I discovered this beautiful gem, and 1400 dollars later she was mine. She has a few knicks here and there but only has 18k on the odometer  :good2: hopefully ill have her for years to come. The only bad news is as i was unloading the bike off the ramp i cracked the lower plastic.  :dash2:

Already love this thing

Welcome dude! Lots of great folks here with tons of experience and knowledge.  Looks like you scored a great looking ride!  Do some searching on abs repair for techniques to effect a repair on the plastic.  Enjoy,

Chris

Specifically, look for "abs goo" or "abs goop". Legos and acetone.  Great stuff!

great score on a great year fj.

check your 2nd gear for popping out under hard acceleration , engine really wakes up after 6k rpm.

enjoy .

Welcome, the '86 is my first FJ and I really like the color. The cracked lower can be fixed by plastic welding and as mentioned the ABS goo. I use both methods depending the repair needs. In the mean time you can run without the lower so you can remove it till its fixed back up. Cracks left alone on a ridden bike will only get worse. And they get dirt in the cracks making repairs even harder. There is another FJowner near you https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=724879#. (https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=724879#.) There is a ton of info here so you find nearly anything you search for. I tend to use Google and add fjowners to the search words. I am looking forward to your posts after your first ride.

Thats a good looking bike. I found out also that FJ's do not like ramps. I'm in Ohio as well, welcome to the site I've found this place to be extremely helpful.
