Title: remove gauges
Post by: big r on May 28, 2016, 02:53:32 PM
I think I saw where someone removed their gauges without taking the fairing off.Is this possible? I have a 86 and one of the tiny screws that hold the face on the fuel gauge and clock came out and it is turning. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Big R

I know that on my '92 I could remove the gauge shroud, and gauge cluster, without removing my fairing.
However, on my '84 I can not, the gauge shroud is part of the fairing so, my fairing must come off.

I suspect you are in the same boat as my '84, but not 100% sure, your '86 has a different fairing than my '84.

Others will chime in....

On an 86 you do need to remove the fairing.

You can ease the process by taking the fairing off with the fairing sub-frame. Just remove the four side fairing fixings, then the inners and then the sub-frame bolts are accessible. All you need to do after that is remove the speedo cable and unplug the wiring.

It genuinely takes about 10 min once you're familiar, and about 20 min if you've not done it before.

Thanks Troyski. I was hoping to do it without removing the fairing. :dash2: :dash2: Oh well will have to do it the hard way. Big R
