Post by: Ognog on May 15, 2016, 04:51:54 PM
I am getting a low oil light when I was low on gas and noticed its intermittent regardless I have opted to swap the filter and oil but can't seem to find a concrete anything saying what I'll need to do the job.

I think you are asking about the low oil light. Does it come on during hard acceleration or going up hill?

The second question remains the same. I stand corrected on the first.

Ok, "swap the filter and oil..." meaning change your oil and filter...
In your 1986 FJ1200 Owners Handbook on 6-7 are step by step instructions (with pictures)  on how to change your oil and oil filter.

Lots of good stuff in the Owners Handbook.

That's exactly the question what size filter do I need and what oil should I use.

No it's just on and then shuts off after a little while. Didn't come on consistently. Also I'll have to see if the fuel level may have affected it some how as I just went through my first take of gas and didn't see it early on.

You need a oil filter for a 1986 Yamaha FJ1200 (all years '84-'93 use the same filter)

The filter is a canister you will several brand options but just one filter unless you change over to the rpm adapter

http://rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=HF40 (http://rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=HF401)

Then you can use spin on filters http://rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=spinonfilteradapter (http://rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=spinonfilteradapter)

The OP's next question will be "How do I fix a stripped drain plug?"   :dash2:
