Hello guys and girls...
I am new to the FJ scene. (first post)
I have recently purchased a custom build FJ1200 and there's only one thing I would change..and that's the last k of a rear hugger.
I see a few people have modified other models' huggers to fit.
I don't mind doing the work I would just like to know which hugger to buy that will fit on the swing arm.
Any help if grateful.

Welcome, looking forward to your introduction later. Here is one option that I know one other has also done. An aftermarket hugger that fits a '92 GSXR. http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=12900.0. (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=12900.0.) If you change your swing arm then you can look for a hugger for that swing arm.

Note that FJmonkey's fender is from a 92 and the one I used is from a '90. They appear identical, but I can't confirm this. My only issue with this mod is that as the suspension cycles / compresses, the sub frame hits and scratches the hugger fender. I'm not sure if this is true of other similar mods.
This year, I repainted the fender and applied some 3M clear protective film to the two area's of the fender that make contact with the sub frame. I think it's called 'RockGuard'.
I haven't ridden it hard enough to fully cycle the suspension yet, but am anxious to see how it holds up.

My rear tyre is a 150/80-16... Stock swing arm still.
Would the 1991/2 GSXR 1100 still fit?
I have found a few GSXR 400 huggers that look very simular too.

That year hugger fits on my stock swing arm with 180/55-17 so I feel confident it will fit.
Here is a rear hugger for the '88-'90 FJ1200 swing arms using the OEM 16" wheel and 150/80/16 tire. I am sure easy modifications can be made to fit the other years.

I have this 1990 GSXR750 hugger. It is the narrower version and should look ok with a 150 or 160 tire. $35.00 plus shipping in the US.
This can be bolted onto the stock FJ swingarm. You will need small angle aluminum for mounting tabs.

I haven't seen a hugger mod installed with a stock set up -- top mounted rear brake and stay. I'm thinking you need to have an underslung brake and stay to do this mod or the stay will be in the way . ??

My hugger has the GSXR under caliper...

Can we assume that you still have the stock wheel and brakes? If so, I think you'll run into a clearance issue with the top mounted brake stay and the fitment of the hugger.

It looks like I will be able to sort something out now.
Yes I still have standard top brake and stay, what I was thinking of doing is making a bracket to go from the bolt where the stay meets the brake caliper, to the hugger. Will only need a small one.
And then also possibly another some the opposite end of the stay.
Once I have one that will be the right size for the swingarm and bolt firing areas ect, I should be OK to modify it and make it work.
