So I have decided towards keeping the FJ I just purchased and learning and improving it while it improves my knowledge. In the process I have read up quite a bit and plan on doing some brake,wheel, fork, and the RPM oil cooler upgrade. Now before I do this I'm having some fueling issues which keep the bike from having a smooth and predictable rpm response from throttle input now I don't know if I'm being prissy from only knowing fuel injection but id feel better rebuilding the carbs and getting to know my "Fay" a little more. I plan on purchasing the RPM 120 piece carb rebuilt kit, what else should I purchase/plan on having before I first time this endeavor?
I would suggest that you first strip down the carbs and check what parts you need. I don't think you need all 120 pieces, but that's only my humble opinion. I would definitely change all O rings in the carbs and all the fuel/vacuum lines. The rest only if needed.
And yes, those rubber clamps that hold your carbs are probably bad if they were never changed. Check the air filter, too.

Most of 120 parts are SST fasteners to replace the soft JIS fasteners that tend to strip when removed with a Philips drive. I would inspect the float needles and seats. The O-rings for the seats are likely shot. Having a spare bowl gasket is handy if one tears. Having an old narrow blade screwdriver ground down for jet removal is a plus, them jets are soft and strip out easy. Being down in a hole makes a stripped jet hard to remove. Take pictures of different parts and angles before removing parts. Nice to have as a reference. Take your time so you can pay attention to detail. Go easy on wobbly-pop (Beer). And if you get stuck, like many game shows, you make a phone call.
