Title: Brake fluid type
Post by: a.graham52 on May 10, 2016, 06:52:28 AM
I tried the search but there were thousands of hits to sift though. What type of brake fluid does the 87 use? I forgot to look and now I'm at work with my clutch slave and ready to rebuild.

DOT3 or 4 will work fine, unless someone like me changed it to DOT5.

The OEM Master Cylinder covers have the Recommended brake fluid type casted as part of the cover.

DOT 3 or DOT4 work just fine.

Fred

BTW, the 1st Gen Vmax uses the same master cylinder covers as the FJ1200

A.Graham,

Isn't that information engraved on the master cylinder cover?
Somebody here may have a 1987 Owners Manual for you, as a .PDF from Yamaha.
I did find a 1986 version, if that helps:

You can do a Search on the Internet for

1987 FJ1200 "owners manual"

and there were several sources available, but I did not check them out any further.
Somebody here may have exactly the Owners Manual that you need, as a .PDF file.

www.dogpile.com (http://www.dogpile.com) is a search engine that searches many search engines, so it may provide more sources than just Google.

Cheers,
Red
