Hi,
I need to order a new exhaust system for my '86 FJ. It looks like the Vance and Hines system is the only one listed to fit it (except the Remus). I have searched the forums here and think that I read that all years will fit, only the muffler mount may be a problem. After reading here all the great reviews on the V&H systems, I don't want one. My question is, will a D&D for a '92-93 fit my '86? I can fab a muffler mount if I need to.
If it will fit, what are your recommendations on which can; loud or quiet? I like loud pipes, I like to annoy the Harley guys :dance2:. Thank you in advance.

Yes, it will fit. You may have to "fab a mount" which means that if the muffler strap isn't in the right place for your '86, then you'll have to find a piece of flat metal approx 1" wide and drill 2 holes in it the right length apart as your hanger.
I would choose the "Quiet" muffler, both because D&D are usually on the VERY loud side, and because on rides of over an hour a loud pipe will tire YOU out. You can annoy the Hardly guys by disappearing into the distance. :-)
Cheers,
Arnie
Thanks Arnie!
Now I have to decide which muffler to get, black or aluminum. Any thoughts anyone?
I doubt any fab work is needed... You can loosen the mount/clamp on the muffler, it'll probably line up just fine if you slide it forward on the muffler a bit.... I have a D&D on my '90 and I love it.
