Title: Rotors for 1990 fj1200??
Post by: completelymobile on April 07, 2016, 10:57:14 AM
Can't determine what my options are as far as replacement rotors for my 1990 fj1200. Tried to cross reference but it appears 1989 and 1990 fj1200 are no longer made? I would like to know what different bike rotors will work on my stock 1990 fj1200. Can other years of fj rotors work on my bike? Thank you in advance for any help!!

Yes, the front rotor for any FJ, excluding ABS models, from 88-95 will work.

I have both Braking and EBC rotors in stock for your application.

Braking Full Floating Brake Rotor (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=brakes%3ABrakingRound)
Braking Full Floating Directional Brake Rotor (L) (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=brakes%3ABrakingWaveLeft)
Braking Full Floating Directional Brake Rotor (R) (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Brakes%3ABrakingWaveRight)

EBC XC Brake Rotor (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=brakes%3AEbcXCRotor)
EBC X Brake Rotor (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=brakes%3ABrakingRound)

The rear rotors are all the same.

Braking Rear Rotor (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Brakes%3AERotor)
EBC Rear Rotor (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=brakes%3AEbcERotor)

There are also a bunch of offshore brake rotor available on eBay, but I personally do not want to put my life into those hands and the reason I do not offer them.

Good evening completelymobile,

After using the EBC HH brake pads and the Chinese wave rotors on the front of the FJ, one of the rotors eventually warped.  I then invested in the EBC XC Square Drive rotors again using the HH pads with excellent (and improved) results.  Many miles and perhaps two years later, a new set of HH pads have recently been installed. The rotors themselves are wearing quite well.

Re: the rear rotor - I had several rotors warp after a comparatively short time.  I eventually installed the Braking rear rotor and it seems impervious to warping and has worn very well.  Using the organic brake pads it has great feel, especially during hard applications.

Finally, through special order from RPM a Braking radial front master was utilized and it is an excellent investment - it has an adjustable cam that allows the rider to set the amount of leverage desired.  It has really improved the 'feel' of the front brakes.

The EBC rotors & HH brake pads combined with the radial master from Braking offer an exceptional braking experience - a significant improvement braking and also confidence inspiring.

Ride safe

i second this opinion, i went with the EBC rotors , HH pads, and did the blue dots, XJR master
braking modulation and power rivals my modern sportbike that has a RC19 master and brembo full floaters
"confidence inspiring" is a great way of saying it
