I know i`m resurrecting a really old post here but is it possible to take the other bit out too ? I have a cv engine i want to put into my XW .

The OP wants to know if he can remove all of the engine bushings (not just the sleeve) on the rubber mounted '91-95 and install them on the earlier FJ.
I'd say yes, it's possible. At a Manshed day at the Generals place, Baldy was doing the engine mount greasing mod on a bike and after several blows hitting the inner collar with a hammer it finally came out. On reassembly though we noticed that the whole outer collar had moved as well and wouldn't line up inside the engine mounts which we then had to tap back in to rectify.
I wouldn't recommend flogging it with a hammer as you could brake the engine casing off, but if you made a puller of some sort that fitted over the whole mount that supported the engine casing then they should come out. Installation would be a reverse process.
Many thanks for the reply (and moving the question ) ...i plan to use some extra long sockets i have to use as a puller . with a piece of threaded bar . Many thanks again for confirming my thoughts .
Be mindful that the inner collars on their own can be very hard to remove, so don't expect the outer ones to be any easier. Tapping on the bolt head while tightening the puller might help it along. Good luck, and post up if successful.
will do thank . the engine they are coming out of is dead so if the worst come to the worst I can cut them out l. The main issue i may have is getting the dreaded ali mounts out of the good motor so i can put these better mounts in .

The aluminum ones are much more difficult to remove. With the engine assembled, your best bet is to drill the old aluminum mount out. I have seen several posts on other forum where guys start with smaller size holes on the outside. They keep going bigger until they can break it into pieces for removal.
Just be careful to only drill the mount and not the case.

Just one more question before i have a go at this tomorrow. Bones said that the inner collar "wouldnt line up " does that then mean that the outer part of the mount is in fact in 2 pieces ?

I've never had the outer collar out so I don't know if it's one piece or two, but what I was saying was that the outer collar had moved and when we tried to put the engine mount plates back on nothing lined up.
As you see in the picture, the inner collar/bush sticking out is what gets greased and slides in and out of the outer collar easily when cleaned, but the outer collar in the engine case moved and wasn't centred and had to be tapped back in for the mounts to line up. Hope that helps.

Well they are out . I had to take an angle grinder to the case to get them out in the end . I did faff with it for an hour or so but the case was damaged anyway so threw the towel in . They are in one piece as you can see . They DID NOT want to budge using the traditional "threaded bar and sockets" method . I tried and didnt get any movement what so ever just stripped threads. However they are out and ready for the easier (i hope) installation on the new engine.
Freeze them for a day or two before you go to put them in the new engine case. May help them to go in a little easier.

hi , yes thats the plan . put these in the freezer . heat up the mounts and hopfully they`ll go in nice and easy . Well, huh , nothing has been easy with this build lol .
