okay, i've been in contact with a few of our consistent rally attendees, and all are in favor of the rally change to Bryson City. Better location in multiple ways. Where Suzanne and I and a few others will be staying, and hopefully will be our fall rally location for years to come, is
https://www.deepcreekcamping.com/ (https://www.deepcreekcamping.com/)
i called today, and gave them the dates that I would be arriving (Tuesday to sunday), and they had ALL cabins available. and when i said that i'd like a cabin with a bathroom, her response was that ALL their cabins have bathrooms. although they have a link to make a reservation, i would suggest just calling. optimally, have the campground layout open on your computer at the time, as she will ask you which cabin you would like (at least, that's what she did with me, since they were all available).
i couldn't get a group rate from them, but hopefully if we make a good impression on them, both in numbers and in behavior, they will offer it for next year.
Nice place, but not exactly inexpensive or pet friendly, FWIW... :pardon:

quite a few of their cabins allow pets; in fact, when suzanne and i stayed there last time we took our dog with us. and we have reserverd a cabin so we can again, this time.

I can't deny that, but when one looks at the rates, one has to buy up to a higher price point to get one, effectively paying $22 a night extra for the pet.
Call me cheap if you want, but that's too fucking much for a small dog.
thanks for your input, randy. unfortunately, no location will meet all of our needs as closely as the koa in boone does. suzanne and i spent an entire weekend scouting out locations in the entire area, putting mileage on my own vehicle, spending my own cash, in order to find the best possible location, and so far this appears to be the compromise. this place is really nice, and i am stoked for it!

It's all good... enjoy the rally.
I'm thinking that four rallies in one season was a bit of a stretch anyway. :pardon:
I'm in.
Haven't looked at the prices, but then again I don't really care... I miss the old Tellico rallies where we were all in the same location but with my schedule issues I always have to wait until the last minute to book. Looks like there are more than enough cabins and I already made arrangements to stay there.
Looking forward to new /revised routes, A town with real restaurants (yes plural), and hopefully spending a day heading up the blue ridge for the first time since I Klavdy visited. The drive there is a bit longer for me but should be shorter for many others... Maybe we can get Calvin to a fall rally again...
Change can be a good thing, If not, I am sure we can have a good time and return to Tellico next year.
Thanks Dean.
Looks good to me! From my house, it's half an hour of highway and then 3-1/2 hours of sportbike heaven. I could trailer, or I could ride and pack light.
Randy, I plan to rent something dog-friendly that sleeps a lot of people; Andrew will bring Goose, I plan to get something big enough for a few of us (Paul & the Scrambler, Ducati Dave, possibly my friend Bruce on either his old Guzzi or my FJ) so you may as well bring Qbert. You're welcome to share wherever I am. If my snoring bugs you or if the beds work out to favor something different, feel free to sleep in a different cabin and leave Qbert with us.
This place is an hour further for Paul (Scrambler) from Louisville, 7 hours instead of 6, but it looks like a pretty nice 7 hours versus his rather-grueling 6 hour ride that was his trip to/from Tellico. Ducati Dave has more autonomy than before, so the extra hour from Memphis-ish shouldn't be a problem. My friend Bruce is way down in Florida on the panhandle, still don't know if he'd ride the Guzzi up or trailer it or fly to my place and ride one of mine.
bill,
looking forward to seeing you and andrew and everyone else coming with you. and yep, this adds an additional hour to my travel time, but i think it's worth it once i'm there.

I have come to like Waynes place, but won't hurt to try something new. As long as every body shows up, that's what really matters. Couple hours closer for me is a nice bonus.
I'm in.....I agree it's more fun to have everyone staying in the same place and the opportunity for mixing in different riding/routes is always appealing.
I'm most looking forward to riding the Cherohala with the sun at my back for a change...... It's my favorite road by far and for me, catching sun in the eyes both in the Am and PM when crossing it is honestly the worst part about staying in Tellico :good2:
Any particular are of the campground where i should be reserving a spot Dean? Calvin may want a Cabin...I will more than likely be hammocking somewhere near the river. :yahoo:
I'll steer Cal to this thread.
Kookaloo! :good2:
Frank,
Carey is in the "Fontana" and I'm in the "cataloochee", both are on the " North" side if you're looking at the site's diagram.

I'm not giving up Tellico beach..We'll just eat there for lunch.. It's all good!
Bill, I think that was some of Carey's patented sarcasm.

Nancy and I are in...still trying to decide cabin or RV...last we checked our 5th wheel was too big, will check again. Also thinking of staying thru Sunday and leaving Monday as I'll probably be laid off this summer...thinking on it, maybe just stay an extra week! :yahoo:

Reserved my cabin today. 9/13-9/19 bringing a dog and a split tail

I won't be there for the fall rally. :flag_of_truce: Had to take a show job......however Jack if you chose to stay an extra week, then maybe I could talk Jeff into coming up.....just throwing that out there. Otherwise we'll probably skip it this year.

I'm in the "cataloochee"
...are you aware this cabin is NOT equipped with A/C ?
... I'm already fantasizing of tubing down deep creek. with my daiquiri. and my speedos
did i say cataloochee? i meant to say tuskaseegee (sp?). ( :
Wondering about moseying on down for this. So it's the w/e of September 17-18, 2016?
A few questions:
Would anyone be averse to sharing a cabin if available? If not then tenting it is perfectly ok with me.
Probably be just me but I will pass it by the spouse. Someone will have to look after the dogs...
Just speculation at the moment. Putting a new roof on the house may put a damper on things. I'm scheduled to work that w/e, but if I book vacation I can mix it with visits to my brother in VA and friends in Simpsonville SC less than 2hrs south of Bryson.
Thx

So what is the bonfire situation with the new camp site?
R U bringing the wife too? We miss her more than the dogs or that rambunctious rider of your bikes who scratches them on the GAP..... and no, I have not ridden off the edges of the roads and gone inverted lately in the rain..... Randy and I managed a few miles at the Central Rally error free....

Dan,
That is something we will have to figure out when we get there. To be honest, it wasn't a huge priority, considering I can't remember the last bonfire we had at a fall rally. ..
Time to get this thread revved up. I should get in Tuesday afternoon, Nancy and I decided to stay until the following Monday. Finally got the old R1 carbs restored, question is "Do we really need another sacrificial R1????" :dash2:
While I'm at it.....When I look at google maps there are three ways to get to Bryson City, coming from the NE. Since I'll be pulling the RV I'd like to avoid any really twisty roads and steep mountains. Anyone ever go over RT 26 from RT81 down to Asheville? Looks like the quick way.....
Dave,
sorry I missed you at the central. Damn pesky job got in the way.The wife will probobly wait until im loading up the bikes to decide if she will be going however,
if I tell her she can get another ride on the back of your Fazer (courtesy of Mr. Filleti), she may be swayed to go. We/I arrive the 13th.
Scott
suzanne, paul the wondernewf and i will be arriving tuesday and staying until sunday.
I took Friday and Saturday off so I will be there Thursday night. I think my wife might also be coming. I can't wait to see everyone.

Man......that is 13.5 hours straight south of me (in the truck) 7 hours on CanD :mocking: ....or maybe I'll bring the Sno .... :blum1: ... :mail1: .....hmmmmm......I would love to....I'll see if I can swing it !!!! (popcorn)........

Do they consider motorcycles to be "extra vehicles" subject to the $5/day charge?
Reservation made! Tuesday through Sunday. Hickory cabin.
hey peeps, don't forget that we're are situated right next to a nice creek, so you may want to bring your swim suits. apparently there are a few swimming holes very close by as well.
